Thanks for that. I'm listening to it right now.

Speaking of Detroit, I just preordered the reprint of The Other People Place on wax. So glad the Drexciya stuff is getting reprints after all these years.

Revisiting some metal comfort favourites this week, lots of Venom, Maiden, Metallica etc etc etc. NWOBHM & Friends, uguu. I generally like Iron Maiden. However I fucking LOVE Bruce Dickinson's Accident/Chemical/Tyranny trilogy with guitarist+producer Roy Z. The guy's a goddamn beast on both fronts. Even sans the beatific presence of Adrian Smith for the third, the guitars on "Abduction" are face-shredding metal! That's remorselessly pulverising, stratospherically harmonising, razor-sharp cheesegrater square across your motherfucking face-shredding metal!

Not as thunderously accomplished as the respectively groove/prog-infused pre-reunion pair with Smith, but fuckin close enough to be mentioned in the same company for sure.

Nice. Will give these a listen.

Love me some Maiden. Nothing gets me pumped up like Aces High and The Trooper. So much damn energy in those songs. I literally go bananas when I hear them and have to refrain myself from jumping around, lol. although I do headbang for sure ;) I just gets my blood pumping. Just makes you wanna go to war, ya know?

Much epicness. So full of bravado.

I recommend starting with Accident of Birth - The Chemical Wedding eventually became my clear favourite of the three, but it's kind of the proggy Seventh Son to Accident's all-business Piece of Mind. ;3 Tyranny's not as great tbh. Dickinson had long reclaimed his place in the metal world by 2004, and eased up rather than going all-in for the kill. I usually chop "Devil on a Hog" off the playlist - would fit fine on Tattooed Millionaire, but totally clashes here. Still a substantial record overall though. "Believil" and the title track are heavy and doomy as hell, the two-minute coda of "Kill Devil Hill" is just unearthly beautiful.

In truth none of these solo records quite get back to the streamlined NWOBHM punch of 80-85 Maiden - but Roy Z's heavier, groovier riffing is always in service of Dickinson/Smith's intricately melodic epic metal. They never retreat to trendier 90s pastures ala Priest's Jugulator. D/S are in peak form, with absolutely none of the former's painful, reductive Prayer/Fear rasping - he bellows, proclaims and vibrato-sustains like it's 1982 ("You don't need a God/I'M here now!"). Roy Z is no slouch either. Adept at both incendiary shredding and lyrical, moving acoustic passages. Blasting "Darkside of Aquarius" as I type, god damn. These three were a killer unit.

Speaking of Bruce and Chemical Wedding, BIL, I take it that you have seen the film of the same name? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0974536/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Low ratings, low budget but fuck that. Written by Bruce. Simon Callow as Crowley. Lots of fun :D

You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

Adam Beyer - Stockholm Mix Sessions
One of his older mix CD comps released on Tiga's Turbo records. It's more of a Tech House and melodic Techno mix that is relatively sedate by comparison with what he was known for playing in clubs when it was released. I like it a lot despite being a superior DJ

Fightstar - Grand Unification

Somewhat mediocre post-hardcore/alternative metal that loosely references Neon Genesis Evangelion. Catchy and cathartic. Good shmup music.
