I can see why someone might say this, but I can't help but equate it with the early days of the original Wii and DS in particular, when absolutely everything "needed" motion controls or touchscreen features grafted on, frequently to the detriment of the game in question. I've said it before, but in my opinion the quicker any console "gets over" showing off whatever "unique features" it has and just focuses on building up a solid library of titles of all types the better things are likely to turn out for both it and its customers.

Does it show the same shitty framerate in the same area shown in the vid ?

Lol if it's smoother on the Wii U people are going to lose it.

It doesn't look that bad to me. Not like there's an FPS counter in the corner though.

Nintendo recently showcased some indie titles, they've uploaded it to their Youtube channel:
https://www.youtube.com/user/Nintendo/videos

Blaster Master Zero looks pretty good, though I don't exactly have a lot of faith in the developer, the trailer definitely makes me want to play it. Also coming to the 3DS, but the 3DS screen is so unbelievably shit I wouldn't play any game on a 3DS that isn't exclusive.

Image & Form's next game is SteamWorld Dig 2. Ugh, I guess I saw this coming, but I'd rather they made any other game than more SteamWorld Dig. SteamWorld Heist showed they can do more interesting games.

Wargroove looks to be trying to clone both Advance Wars and Fire Emblem. Usually I really like light turn based tactics and this looks pretty decent, but I have bad experiences with games that try to clone Advance Wars rather than be something of their own. And this definitely looks very inspired by Advance Wars. From the developers of Starbound, apparently.

Also the first gameplay I've seen from Shakedown: Hawaii (more 16-bit game from the developer of Retro City Rampage). It looks pretty good. It's supposed to eventually (timed exclusive) come to a handheld I do have though (Vita) so I'm not running out to get a Switch to play this.

Yup, the Switch version running on a hacked Wii U is definitely smoother than the legit port.

I wonder how hard Bomberman will bomb (so much potential for puns if it does) at its current price point.

2 hours and 37 minutes battery life at stress according to Eurogamer? Wow, Kotaku should've included a powerbank in their "hidden costs" section (a very important section, good review by Kotaku). I get more time out of that from my Vita when it is not full charged and that isn't enough. Feels like it'll be another 3DS situation where if I want to play it, I know I'll have to have a charger ready.

I consider poor battery life on the Vita to be an annoyance. It's going to be worse on the Switch. Far from a dealbreaker, but I was already a bit disappointed when I heard three hours and now hearing there's a possibility of it being less, on a brand new battery even?

Five is a great number. It's a good number. Your post was posted on 5 PM exactly.

Hoping to see an 8.8/10 score somewhere.

I'm excited. I stopped playing Zelda 64 after I bought Shadowman a few days later. I played Shawdowman and never looked back at the "on rails" Zelda 64. Boring rubbish.

Majora's Mask held my attention for a playthrough. Ocarina of Time was a yawn; I got bored. Twilight Princess was a snooze, but I did finish it. There was another Zelda with the motion plus and I flew around--then I got bored and never came back.

I adored Ultima X and Skyrim, so I'm excited about this Zelda.
We apologise for the inconvenience

Bought a Wii U copy this morning. So far, it's pretty much what I expected. The framerate has been ok, but there's a few areas where if you stand at just the right position and camera angle, the FPS tanks hard. Doesn't happen very often, though. I'm not sure I'd call it 10/10 masterpiece, but it's at least a 9/10 so far.

The framerate is disappointing.

I've only just started (Wii U version), and I've gotten past the first 4 shrines, and made it to the first village.
I don't know what I would rate it now.

It's going to look gorgeous once CEmu properly supports it, has 1080p 60 fps mode and there's some high res texture packs floating around. That's the 10/10 version of BotW right there ..

So, anecdotally this seems to have been a good launch (talking strictly sales terms here) but not a bonkers one. It seems pretty common for stores to have had stock easily available at walk-up, and left over after the first day.

I'm going to guess momentum will gradually slow as the diehards are satiated and this thing will do only marginally better than the Wii U.

I picked up Zelda on the Wii U, which is pretty much confirmed at this point to be a comparable version, and am very glad not to have to worry about the Switch. Yes, I have the U but that's part of the reason I want no further involvement with Nintendo hardware. Ironically, this final game is the only thing that validates its purchase - and that's because it allows me to ignore their new console.

If anything, this launch disproves the idiotic notion that the NES Classic ridiculousness is some sort of genius strategy of Nintendo's. They could have easily created the same "unobtainable" image for the Switch but have instead oversupplied. With regard to the ongoing NES fiasco: they're just a bunch of fucking idiots over there.

Hoping to hell this thing burns quickly and N finally learn some type of lesson.

Post-launch there's surprisingly not been a whole lot of negative news.

Joycon signal seems to be a real problem. Also the Switch seems to randomly trigger automatic HDMI switches.

Some people are reporting screen scratching and blaming it on the dock. Not sure how huge an issue is, but considering this is the company that gave us the 3DS with its clamshell top screen scratching guaranteed design... I would be wary of those who claim it is a non issue. I see the reason: like all Nintendo consoles it's a toy designed for kids first and foremost. There's a plastic screen because it's more durable (even if it scratches it won't break) and a dock cover in front so it won't fall on the floor entirely unprotected (at the risk of the dock cover touching the screen). Like every Nintendo console, I want a pro SKU for adults or something.

Funnily enough there's people whining about Nintendo's defect pixel policy as if they've never owned another device with a screen before (everyone has about the same policy). Though slightly alarming if you do find a defect with your Switch and want to return it you have a pretty huge problem:

There's no way to transfer save games from a Switch yet. Maybe they're really trying to make "not at launch" their slogan.

The Asian physical release of I Am Setsuna supposedly has English language, so if you wanted a physical portable version of that game then it's now available, for a pretty high price of course...

Oh and obviously hackers have figured out how to use the Switch's web browser. I would guess Nintendo doesn't allow access to the web browser because it's so early in development and they don't want to show off an unfinished product... Then you look at the rest of the Switch and realize that can't be the case.

The Switch uses friend codes in 2017. I'm not sure if Nintendo is capable of learning anything.

I have this issue. It's not super awful but certainly a weird issue that shouldn't be a thing. Maybe due to the design people are more likely to place the dock in places that are affected by interfering devices?
Also the Switch seems to randomly trigger automatic HDMI switches.
There's a setting that enables the Switch to control the power status of the TV - this might be related.
Some people are reporting screen scratching and blaming it on the dock.
I think there's exactly 1 report of this incident so far.

Agreed. There's lots of corner cutting so they can sell their products for cheap to people who have no idea about anything. It's a joke they're not uring IPS panels in all consoles and that there's still no functionality for adjusting the color temp (my Wii U controller screen looked awful).
The Switch uses friend codes in 2017.
So you can use whatever username you want withoout needing to exchange login information with other people. Where is the problem here?

That's one of two legitimate complaints about the Wii-u version I have so far. Once you walk into that village you can feel the framerate start churning like it's drenched in molasses.

My other complaint is that the wii-u touchpad does nothing....they couldn't even have given us a map on there???? I understand that the Switch doesn't have dual-screen functionality like the Wii-u, but they still could have thrown us a bone there. Map, inventory....shit I'd even settle for a still picture of the triforce. I feel like at one point in development the game had to have used the touchpad, but they took it away so people who bought the Switch wouldn't bitch about lacking Wii-u version features.

So...apparently all (?) weapons wear and break...*mmrgh* I've never liked that sort of thing, or I mean at least give the player a chance to acquire some unbreakable things at various points in the game (especially when there are large dungeons coming, also near the end please).
