Potential console setups for a BVM-14F5U
I just won one of these babies on Ebay and I was trying to figure out what the optimal setups for each of my consoles should be.
I currently have:
Gamecube DOL-001
Game Boy Player
Wii RVL-001
My roommate is planning to bring up his Genesis and 32X at some point in the coming weeks as well.
For the Gamecube, I know I will buy an official Nintendo S-Video cable instead of getting the GCVideo mod, at least temporarily. (Hopefully I can wait until their plug and play solution comes to fruition).
I'm not quite sure how the GBP will fare in S-Video, or if it will matter at all.
I've read good things about both SCART and Component for the Wii, but haven't drawn a conclusion there yet.
And considering that these will all go into a BVM, I'm getting one of these with a Sync Separator for futureproofing's sake.
So the question is whether these setups are optimal for a videophile on a budget and whether I can do all this through various BNC adapters auccessfully.

GameCube is mostly fine in S-video. I assume you have a US Wii, so just use component and get some bnc to rca adapters. I'd also recommend hacking the Wii as its nes, gen, snes, gbc, and tg16 capabilities are quite good.

You'll want the official component cables or the GCVideo mod (analog or digital) for the best possible quality.Gamecube DOL-001
Sell the GameBoy Player Disc if you have it. It's very poor quality due to the software making GB/GBC/GBA games dark, laggy and blurry. Buy an SD Memory Card adapter from Codejunkies.com or eBay with the money you made from selling the disc or make your own SD Memory Card adapter. Boot up GameBoy Interface (Ultra Low Latency) from your SD Card and have pixel-perfect sharpness and colors with near zero input lag.Game Boy Player
You'll want the official component cables for the best possible quality. There's work being done at the moment for a potential HDMI mod that outputs a pure digital signal. Side note: The RVL-CPU-60 is the final hardware revision of the RVL-001, and has the sharpest component video output of all the backwards-compatible Wiis, rivaling that of the RVL-101s (Family Wiis).Wii RVL-001

Will S-video work on the BVM-14F5U? And I'm definitely gonna softmod my Wii soon. Gotta have muh homebrew.Einzelherz wrote:GameCube is mostly fine in S-video. I'll be doing the GCVideo route in the future but for now S-Video will have to do for me.GeneraLight wrote:You'll want the official component cables or the GCVideo mod (analog or digital) for the best possible quality.
Definitely doing that ASAP.Sell the GameBoy Player Disc if you have it. It's very poor quality due to the software making GB/GBC/GBA games dark, laggy and blurry. Component it is. Thank you for all the info. You'll want the official component cables for the best possible quality. It doesn't look like it has s video by default. I don't own any bvms and they're a little different so you'll have to check with some of the other guys.clutchins wrote:Will S-video work on the BVM-14F5U? I found this but I wouldn't know which BNC inputs to plug those two connectors into. http://www.svideo.com/fsvto2mbnc.htmlEinzelherz wrote:It doesn't look like it has s video by default. No, BVMs need an add-on cart with a y/c decoder to handle s-video (or composite). By default you only get RGB and Component.

Damn, I was hoping I'd skirt by without having to search for an expansion slot. Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll be modding my Gamecube sooner than I thought...Fudoh wrote:No, BVMs need an add-on cart with a y/c decoder to handle s-video (or composite). By default you only get RGB and Component.

It's not impossible that the auction you won has Y/C on it. You'll be better able to assess the situation when it arrives.

Re: Potential console setups for a BVM-14F5U
I've seen clean pictures of the back already and it only has RGBs/Component input through BNC. I'll just have to do with composite on my Gamecube for a little bit longer before I can have it modded. The good news is that I can buy a Wii component cable and a Genesis SCART cable in the future.Einzelherz wrote:It's not impossible that the auction you won has Y/C on it. Also, does anybody here know how I should handle audio since BVMs don't have audio inputs? I was thinking about getting some Mackie 3" reference monitors.

Any not garbage speakers work. Most get by with pc speakers. Really the sky is the limit if you want it to be.
