I got MGS4, for the PS3. It's the PAL version, from the UK.
I have looked around, and I have read a couple of different things. One forum said it will run fine thru HDMI (as in not region locked). Another forum said the game would run 17% slower than the US or JP versions.
I'm playing this on my tv, and the tv is saying it's at "60hz" and not "50hz".
I thought this 50hz 60hz stuff got sorted out a long time ago. Like I thought this was more of a SNES era kind of thing.
What's the word? I know you guys are gonna know the correct answer to this.

Re: Question about PAL games on NTSC PS3
It's MGS4, for the PS3. There's no PAL or NTSC anymore for the PS3 generation, games run exactly the same wherever you've bought them and whatever PS3 you use.
So you were right in your thinking.

"Fun" fact, although they did get rid of region locked games, if you buy dlc, there is a chance that that the game won't detect it unless it is bought from the same region psn store as the game.

Re: Question about PAL games on NTSC PS3
As far as Ps4 games go, just buy the cheapest version you can find. I've bought US, Hong Kong and UK versions of disc based games and its all the same.
Games are no longer sold territory wise for PAL and NTSC since the Wii as far as I know.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

That's what I thought. I don't know why that one guy told me it would run slowly.
Well, thanks guys. I got the UK version, just because I like the cover art so much better.

It's only an issue for SD analogue output, if you're using HDMI there's nothing to worry about (source).

Re: Question about PAL games on NTSC PS3
The NTSC PS3 operating system (in North America at least) attempts to deliberately prohibit 50Hz output. Scenarios like trying to play a PAL PS1 / PS2 classic from PSN, PAL encoded DVD / blu-ray movies, or PAL PS3 games on an SDTV (when the game's SD mode is 50Hz only), may be blocked with an error message.
Should this happen, it's on the console side. Irrelevant whether you own a compatible TV.

Re: Question about PAL games on NTSC PS3
Pretty sure a PAL PS3 has a lowest resolution of 576i and the NTSC one is 480i too at the OS level at least.
A caveat perhaps
(This might not be true when running NTSC PS1 classics, haven't checked).
