Senko No Ronde RevX

Post by Metal Gear Okt »

I didn't see another topic about this yet, but the official RevX site just opened, it looks like the graphics got a nice little bump for the 360.

It definately looks like they are trying to appeal to the masses, by releasing on 360 and upgrading the graphics/effects. But to be honest, it will still look like ass in comparison to other 360 games. So if they are expecting to gain new fans, they will be sadly mistaken. This is a nitche shooter/fighter hybrid, and all kids today care about are 1st person shooters, GTA cloans, and sports titles on home consoles. I predict failure. They should have kept to a less costly port on dreamcast for their real fans.

I've heard that G.Rev has some kind of beef with Sony, but porting this over to the PS3 (which will undoubtedly be more successful in Japan) is a no-brainer.

At the very least, this needs to be released in the US, where there is an actual market for the 360.

Agreed. Not that I think I will ever buy a 360, but at least this would give me some incentive.

If I ever bought a 360 this game will perminately lay within the cosole. It might be the only 360 game worth playing and the disc would never got a chance to leave the console...

It definately not worth to buy a 360 for one game.

By the way, base on past experiance, there is no Xbox shmups doesn't also got release on other game console system.

Be patient, just wait.

Yeah, can't help but think this game wouldn't be worth picking up even if it came out on Dreamcast/some other console I already have. At least if I ever get a 360 it'll have better graphics and online than it otherwise would.

The only way I can see this being a 360 exclusive is if MS gave G.Rev some money hats to fun the "RevX" upgrade.

That said, I did buy an Xbox basically just to play Panzer Dragoon Orta, so buying a 360 just for this wouldn't be unprecedented.

Well, whenever the game comes out is the day I get a 360. To me, this is a lot cheaper than buying a NAOMI GD-ROM combination or buying a Neo-Geo and its games.'

It's this, PGR3, and Geometry Wars for my 360 killer apps list.

Dido.... There has to be at least 5 or 6 games on the system for me to consider buying it. I probably won't get one for another year at the rate the games are going/coming.

To trully love the Neo Geo is to be broke.

Wow, I honestly wasn't expecting a graphical upgrade. This looks beautiful. I sure hope the disc is region-free, because I'm definitely importing this one at launch.

You know, I am reading all the posts in this thread, and it seems like everyone is trying to one-up everyone else about how much they dislike the 360.

I guess if you only play shmups, then I understand this attitude.

In that case, games like Ninja Gaiden 2, or Inafune's Lost Planet, or Mistwalker's RPGs would not mean anything to you.

BUT!

You guys never heard that Cave is making an EXCLUSIVE SHMUP for the 360? Or that Alpha System is making ANOTHER exclusive shmup for the 360?

If you haven't, then let me tell you: it's true!!! At least that's what I have been seeing in Famitsu's release schedule every single week for several months now.

Let's just assume what you're saying is true, what are the odds that it'll be an all-region disc?

IIRC, Microsoft is publishing RevX itself.

Well, I'm not surprised that most aren't enthusiastic about the X360. Unless a person happens to be a fan of online gaming, the system offers less bang for the buck than practically everything else out there right now, and by the time its software library picks up we'll have the option of picking up a Playstation 3. I really like the Xbox (1) but its successor just has very limited appeal right now...

On the flip-side, 360's so clearly the ideal platform for Senko No Ronde that I was musing about the possibility of this port several months before G.Rev announced it. The region-free disc question will be an interesting one.

Of course it offers less bang for the buck then anything else out there!

It's only been out like 90 days or something!

How could it possibly offer more bang for the buck than systems that have been out for 10 years, with libraries of thousands of games?

I just find everyone's reaction to the 360 as kinda funny. It's just another console. It will eventually cost 50 bucks and will have at least a couple dozen good games. And, eventually, every single one of the people who post in this forum will own one. Why can't we just accept that and quit posturing?

Wow... that's both good news and bad news. :D
Another Cave shooter is always good news. Bad news is that I'll have to get the Xbox $3.60 now to play it.

I'm very interested to see what Cave will do with all the power this platform offers. More bullits and no slow down :?:

M$ must be paying them a ton of money. Why else would they make an exclusive for a platform that's not very popular with their general target audience.
Part of M$' asian invasion strategy I'm sure.

Was there a mention on this in Cave's future (year) plans from some time ago? I can't seem to find the link to the post on that atm. :?

Every new console has limited appeal a few months after its released. The PS2 was garbage for a solid 6 months after it was released and the PS3 will be as well. The 360 is picking up steam now after the usual post launch dry spell. Dead Rising looks awesome, the new Elder Scrolls looks absolutely amazing, 99 Nights looks great...

But back on topic, I'm glad that Microsoft is courting smaller japanese devs like G Rev, Treasure and Cave. It's like they know that the typical mainstream fare is going to be plentiful on their platform and they're realizing that they can do something that Sony won't, which is actively go after niche publishers. They're trying to get actual gamers on their side instead of just random casual players. If the followup to Ikaruga came out and was 360 exclusive (or Sin and Punishment for that matter), or a spruced up version of Under Defeat with sick 360 graphics or a Mushi sequel with slick hi res sprites and no slowdown that niche (and people on this forum) would be all over that and they know it.
Feedback will set you free.

The shmups I am talking about are probably long-term projects, that's why they didn't show up on Cave's financial report for the next year.

Aren't you getting Cave mixed up with Treasure?

Treasure has announced they're making a shooter for the 360, but I haven't heard anything about Cave.

They can diss the 360 all they want. Doesn't change the fact that its going to have a killer month this month. Oblivion, G.R.A.W., Blazing Angels, Street Fighter II, and The Outfit? Hells yes.

Personally, I think its just a matter of time before the shmupping community sees that Microsoft is playing their tune via Xbox Live Arcade. But for now, heads will remain firmly in the ass of Sony, for reasons I cannot even begin to fathom.

As for Senko no Ronde Revision X:
If it isn't region free, it BETTER be coming out in the US. Didn't someone say Microsoft is publishing it? I see no reason for MS not to pull that support into the US as well. Region exclusive gaming sucks, and I was hoping Microsoft would be the first to grasp this concept.

No I am not getting them mixed up. What I did was FORGET that Treasure is also into the 360 shmup-making business. How could I forget? Anyway, I started a new topic, cause we are derailing this thread.

Seems that Sega, not MS, is publishing Senko in Japan.

Who knows what that means for a possible port - Sega has left a lot of stuff in Japan the past few years, but maybe they're trying to change that (see: Ryu ga Gotoku coming to the US). And that doesn't exclude the possibility of another publisher picking up the game for US release.

I'm hoping for a region free release myself.

Sega released Condemned: Criminal Origins for the 360 in the US, and that disc was region-free.

That's a good sign.

Perhaps because, as far as shmup releases go, the PS2 is miles ahead of the rest of the current generation of systems (without counting the ability to MAME on the XBox)?

C'mon now, just because you own a system doesn't mean you automatically blindly love the company that makes it without question, and always will: I'm no Sony fanboy, and I own a PS2, simply because it has more games on it that I want to play than the other current systems. Trust me, if the 360 manages to outstrip the PS3 in terms of shmup releases sometime in the future, I honestly doubt that anyone here will stick with Sony just because they're Sony. The vast majority, at least, of members here, go where the games are. If the 360 gets 'em, shmuppers will follow: for the moment, however, it doesn't, perhaps simply because it hasn't been out too long, but all we can do for now is wait and see, rather than simply taking gambles on where our loyalties should lie without any actual games to back it up.

My statement was a bit broader than shmups.com, and included the types of people you will find at Neo-geo.com and IGN swearing by the PS3 despite swearing they love old school arcade games.

Sorry I wasn't a bit more clear. My statement was mostly intended for people saying "The 360 will be shit compared to the PS3!" while Microsoft bends over backwards for retro gamers and Sony shits on them.

Well, I'm just glad that this title is getting a home to begin with. I sort of lost hope when no news surfaced regarding a DC port.

You on Xbox Live?

If so my g-tag is pzykotikjp. Always glad to play games with fellow shmuppers (granted, I've only played online with Vexorg, but he was cool as hell, so it was fun).
