Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Am I good to use a VP30 PSU with a VP50 Pro? This seems to be what all the listings on eBay are selling (6v/5a) and I can't seem to find any 6v/7a PSUs.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
I'm thinking of getting a SNES 1Chip, but seeing prices of around £150-250 on ebay I've been a bit discouraged. Are they worth this price at all?
I'm currently using the Wii VC in 240p on a BVM, and I'm mostly interested in the increased sharpness and compatibility of a SNES 1Chip will provide.

You may experience stability/compatibility issues. The VP50 Pro actually needs those 7A to work properly.Lord of Pirates wrote:Am I good to use a VP30 PSU with a VP50 Pro? This seems to be what all the listings on eBay are selling (6v/5a) and I can't seem to find any 6v/7a PSUs.

If you're comfortable hacking the Wii, the only downside it will have is wiimote lag. Graphically it'll be identical + it's more compatible with modern tvs.Remistewart wrote:I'm thinking of getting a SNES 1Chip, but seeing prices of around £150-250 on ebay I've been a bit discouraged. Do you know of anywhere I can get a proper power supply? This is the only site I've found one on but I'd prefer to order within the US if possible.Xyga wrote:You may experience stability/compatibility issues. No idea sorry, I think Fudoh might know an alternative though rather bulky.
(I'd myself love to know the part number of the one you've linked)

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
someone recently recommend the 5V/10A PSU from Adafruit. It got enough wattage and is reasonably priced at $25, but I haven't tried it myself. I can see it working though, since the DVDOs don't use 6V from the PSUs anyway, but have a voltage converter sitting directly behind the input.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
I've hooked my vp50 pro up to a benchtop @6V; it stays around 4.5A but has gone barely over 5amps. So I'd stay clear of the 6V/5A power supplies.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Ergh, so I'm having an unusual problem with my N64RGB. On certain... surfaces in games, I guess, I'm getting a weird red artefacting... like it can't properly blend the red in with the rest of the scene and it sticks out really badly. Like a big ol' smear.
I'm currently using a PAL N64, but I don't think the J1 J2 J3 jumpers on the N64RGB board have been soldered shut. The cables being used are a SNES RGB cable that uses sync over composite video feeding into a SCART to BNC sync stripper cable - both from Retro Gaming Cables. I have a PAL GameCube cable coming soon, hence using the PAL SNES one in the meantime. I'm wondering if perhaps different capacitors or wiring or whatever between the SNES and Cube cables are causing it?
In Diddy Kong Racing, for example, on certain rock walls and things it shows up.
In Mario 64 you can see it around the sun.

Just noticed that one myself. Sent the guy a message - hopefully he figured out the problem, because it seems to be the same one I'm having.copy wrote:Chomolonzo, that sounds similar to this thread:

Where on the totem pole does the official Dreamcast VGA box fall? I currently own one and use it as my source, do I pitch it and grab something from the BBros?

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
I have no experience with it but, I'd bet it's a lot less finicky than the Hanzo is. The audio output on my Hanzo has failed and the cable into the DC has always been fussy.korpse413 wrote:Where on the totem pole does the official Dreamcast VGA box fall? as good as it gets in terms of quality and reliabillity.Where on the totem pole does the official Dreamcast VGA box fall?
The two things the BB boxes offer over the official one are (a) scanlines and (b) a 15/31khz switch which allows you to get RGB from non-VGA compatible games using the same box or cable.
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
You should be able to find them cheaper if you look for the 1-chip serial numbers. After looking around on ebay it seems that PAL 1-chip serial numbers start with UP173.Remistewart wrote:I'm thinking of getting a SNES 1Chip, but seeing prices of around £150-250 on ebay I've been a bit discouraged. Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Has anyone uploaded the VP50 Pro FW files, software for updating, and manual? Or will I need to get in touch with DVDO? I bought a rebadged unit recently and it arrived today, it's on FW v1.00. I have a laptop with a native serial port but I don't plan on trying to update until I get a proper power supply for the VP50 pro.
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
You can send me a PM for both the FW and the manual.
Who offered a rebadged version of the 50Pro ?

**It is a vp50pro. **
Manual here: http://pdfstream.manualsonline.com/0/09 ... 19ec0d.pdf
Firmwares linked here: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=58498
Edit: Read the manual over and it's definitely a rebadged vp50pro.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Thanks, I forgot that thread existed. It seems it has a customized FW though, as I have several options not listed in the manual.

I forgot to have it highlighted in the picture but, 'field swap' in the last menu isn't listed under the menu tree in the manual. I'm wondering if I should email or call DVDO and find out if I'm alright to update the FW.
Spoiler

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
The DVDO manual is based on a very early FW, so there're certainly options that only got added later on.
What I could imagine though is that the JVC 1.00 FW is equal to some later DVDO FW version. I'm sure Ken at DVDO will help you with this information.

That would make the most sense, I didn't realize the manual was outdated. Is he the person that handles support or is there a specific way to reach him?Fudoh wrote:The DVDO manual is based on a very early FW, so there're certainly options that only got added later on.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
just mail to support@dvdo.com, he's likely the one to reply.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Aye. I've been emailing back and forth for a bit and they confirmed as much. Also mentioned there aren't any newer versions as JVC apparently never requested another.
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
I guess it depends on what you want to use the 50pro for. 240p recognition was added at some point, but I can't see you using that feature and I doubt that the JVC fw is based on the earliest DVDO fw, since it was released so much later on.
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Is S-Video part of the RGB or YPbPr color space?
I'm trying to determine whether to get a PAL GameCube or NTSC GameCube. Since GB/GBC/GBA games were developed with RGB in mind, wouldn't it be better to use the GameCube's RGB instead of it's native YCbCr for the correct colorspace on GB/GBC/GBA games?

Hi Shmups people
I was wondering if a csync RGB SCART cable with my SNES will work on my BVMD24E1WE?
I am using a 1Chip-02
Thank you!

YCbCr is just a mean to represent RGB.GeneraLight wrote:Since GB/GBC/GBA games were developed with RGB in mind, wouldn't it be better to use the GameCube's RGB instead of it's native YCbCr for the correct colorspace on GB/GBC/GBA games?
