Gorden Kaye, who played the chick-magnet René Artois from Allo Allo died at 75. :(

According to ET there was another person who died recently, Bonnie Tiegel. She was the senior producer of the show.

Another shameful and crass post announcing the death of a legend.

John Hurt was one of the most talented actors out there and stole the show in everything he was in. My favorite was his role as Caligula in I, Claudius, probably the best TV drama ever. Really going to miss him.

Couldn't have said it better. What was his latest famous role - playing "the original" Doctor Who? That is a perfect example of a show that wouldn't have worked without his presence. I'll always remember him as Winston Smith, myself.

^ Put my own spin on it.

John Hurt. Well when we talk about actors, he actually was one - a terrific actor in-fact. He spent a lot of time on the stage and never seemed to have anything except supporting roles in movies, which always surprised me considering his caliber. I think the last thing I saw him in was Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, but again, only as a bit part.

I passed him once walking through central London, and now I'm going to regret for the rest of my life not stopping to tell him he was one of the best around. He looked like he was in a hurry though.

RIP Mr Hurt, you will be missed.

Well said, chaps.

John Hurt was, as has been said, a very fine actor indeed. Loved universally for his ability, presence, unique voice and of course, recognised as a gentleman.
If you were a fan of theater and film over the past few decades, Mr. Hurt's voice is no doubt lovingly recorded into your brain forever. Who can re-read Nineteen Eighty-Four or Watership Down without hearing John Hurt's voice.

p.s. Read of Sir John Hurt's passing last night by way of the above mentioned post but felt it inappropriate, at the time, to comment after reading it. Very glad indeed to see that the tone has been questioned. No disrespect was intended, I'm sure.

A great loss.

He was born in Chesterfield, a town well worth visiting for its wibbly wobbly church. I failed my driving test twice there. I intend to go back in May.

The last Doctor Who to die was Jon Pertwee in 1996. I was expecting Tom Baker to go next. That guy and Shatner seem unkillable. John Hurt played a previously unknown incarnation of the Doctor in the 50th anniversary special.

Based on every post he's ever made here about anything, I think xxx1993 probably is on the spectrum somewhere and really does not know any better. If a co-worker said, "I need to leave early today to attend my mother's funeral," he would respond, "OK, when will you be back?" The boy has no sense.

xxx1993, when you're done watching the new XXX movie, be sure to check out I, Claudius and The Naked Civil Servant to see one of the greats at his best.

I admit that was stupid and foolish what I just posted. John Hurt was a great actor. But please tell me one thing, who was he in Harry Potter?

The last performances I saw John in, was in the last Hellboy movies and Snowpiercer.

It is odd how he was never the lead. He was such a talented guy.

Well, there are titties in the first five minutes of I, Claudius.

But I'll admit, my suggestion was mostly because I wanted to picture him going from Vin Diesel chugging Mountain Dew Code Red while street luging to Quentin Crisp prettying himself up in front of the mirror.

1984 should be considered his career performance IMO.

I'd say the John Hurt scene we all seem to be living in after this past week is this one.
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Was always partial to his performance in Contact... although soon half of us will wish we had an Alien burst from our chest.

After Contact I wished an Alien had burst from my chest. I don't even remember him in it.

As influential as Iwata/Nintendo have been, they may never have had the chance w/o Namco.
