Hey all,
New BVM owner, and I still haven't had time to play anything on my BVM-14E1U because I am too busy trying to calibrate it. Here are the tools I am using:
•colorHCFR tool reading program thing (free!)
•Avia Guide to Home Theater DVD (not free!...and I know the greyscale patterns are supposedly bad, but a lot of this is for practice right now)
•i1 Display Pro calibration tool (not free!)
Question time...
1.CONTROL PRESET ADJ->PRESET->MANUAL: This gives me control of Phase, Chroma, Brightness, Contrast across ALL channels...correct? I use the knobs on the controller to adjust each measure at the system level, click "Enter" and then it saves the measurements. At this point there should be no real reason I would ever have to hit the "Manual" button on the controller and turn knobs to adjust settings on the fly?...
2.COLOR TEMP ADJ->?: What exactly do each of these mean? The options are STD, COL1, COL2, CH SET. I'm assuming CH SET simply adjusts the color temp ONLY for the specific channel you are on. However, what is STD? In the manual it says it is D65 (6500k), but so is COL1. Is there something about STD that makes it different than COL1? I have been adjusting Gain, Bias, Lum in STD so far.
3.Are CONTROL PRESET ADJ and COLOR TEMP ADJ ever at odds with each other? What I mean is...while calibrating, I would set Brightness and Contrast in CONTROL PRESET. Then when I would go to COLOR TEMP ADJ->STD->MANUAL there would be a clear change in contrast/brightness...almost as if the COLOR TEMP was ignoring my contrast/brightness settings set in CONTROL PRESET. I figured they would work together...CONTROL PRESET setting the basic knob-esque adjustments, whereas COLOR TEMP would control greyscale calibration and luminance. Am I missing something?
4.Gamma is my biggest pain point when calibrating. Is adjusting Luminance the same as adjusting Gamma? My gamma measurements are all over the place depending on what white level I'm at. I am unaware of a specific gamma setting on the monitor. But isn't luminance tied to gamma--higher luminance = lower gamma? What my calibrated results look like for gamma: https://imgur.com/gallery/PsuBh
Any help would be great. Hopefully some others get some use out of it as well. Thanks!
