Bandridge Scart Selector (SVB7735)

Post by lawnmowergirl »

Hey there everyone! New to the forums and glad to be here!

I had a question about the the Bandridge SVB7735 scart switcher.

Image

I've read around on this forum that this particular unit has sync issues due to the sync stipper correct? I've read that you need to cut one resistor out, and patch another one with a cable to correct this issue. Seems simple enough. Does this also clear up the visual noise and additional darkness that I've read in another thread these switchers add?

I saw that in this comparison here http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/189557

I'm not so worried about clearing up the sync issue as that seems relatively easy, I'm just skeptical of them period because of how fuzzy and dark it makes the picture according to that comparison, which kind of defeats the purpose of RGB on my PVM. Does everyone experience this loss in quality with these units or does it depend on if they're earlier or later serial numbers/models?

I'm planning on buying four for a good price and daisy chaining them all together, so I'm especially concerned with signal degradation throughout.

Any help on this would be GREATLY appreciated, it seems like this is the only affordable scart switch that's worth anything, but upon reading testimonials on this thread I'm getting cold feet on it now. As much as I'd love to, I don't think I can drop money on two gscarts.

Thanks!!

There are a bunch of revisions of this unit, and they don't all have the same issues. I've been lucky, I suppose, in that I've not experienced any of the reported issues with mine.

I'm not aware of any sync issues, however. I've heard of people having darker images, I've heard of issues with the signal leaking through to other inputs and confusing the switch as to what input it should be on, but I haven't heard of issues with sync strippers.

I'd suggest contacting Voultar on Twitter for more information: he's basically the authority on fixing issues with these switches, but all the info is in his head.

After trying unsuccessfully to get a gscart I took a punt and bought two new Bandridges on eBay from a seller in the Netherlands last year and couldn't be happier. No observable noise or brightness reduction and reliable automatic switching.

Previously I've tried used Silverscreen Trilogy 1s and Mad Katz switches but always had mild issues with noise, brightness, auto switching and sync, get none of this with the bandriges. I'm using them with both a XRGB mini and an OSSC.

Like Guspaz I must have been lucky with the revisions I have.

I bought mine from a user on Assemblergames called K405. Cost me 10 euros plus shipping for a manual and I couldn't be happier. He tests all of his unit before shipping to make sure they're are no sync issues. If you want to be on the safe side, order from him. He was also fantastic to work with - awesome person!

So I just got my 4 bandridge automatic scart selectors in the mail today from a seller on ebay by the name of Muk24-com (they also have a website muk24.com).

They have the absolute best deal on the switches, roughly 29 euros a pop on ebay right now I believe? Also not including shipping, which should be expected to 1. take a long time, 3 to 4 weeks, and 2. be a little expensive shipping from Germany. I paid 40 euros for shipping tracking included.

The seller was kind throughout the entire purchase, as we actually worked out our deal outside of ebay through email and paypal (simply because the listing said there were 3 available and I needed 4, to my luck they had more stock, just not the correct number on ebay). And they were kind enough to test every input and output on every switch.

All 4 work flawlessly daisy chained together. The automatic switching is perfect and instant, I don't even have to think about which of my 14 consoles I want to switch the video to. I have no loss in video quality on any of my consoles all hooked up for rgb.

I had to buy my own power supplies, as they come boxed with euro plugs, but that was cheap on amazon. What's nice also is after about 20 minutes of inactivity the switches power off, and upon receiving another signal, wake back up with no wait time.

It was an absolute perfect purchase, and I couldn't be happier with the switches themselves either. I'd love to have gotten gscart switches as I know they're mad specifically for retro gaming, but they're just too expensive, and their layout wouldn't have fit in my somewhat limited on space setup.

Here are links to the seller's ebay store, website where they're also selling the switches, and the auction listings for the automatic and manual switches they're selling, and a link to the us power supplies I got from amazon. And a picture of them in my setup ;)

Thanks for all the info everyone! I hope this post helps some people out there, as I know I had a hell of a time figuring out all the different pieces to my rgb setup, even with help from great people like you all.

(also if you're wondering what those red switches to the left are, they're just power switches that each of my consoles is plugged into. To get power to a single console I want to play at that moment, I press the corresponding button and the power is evenly distributed to it. That way they aren't sucking up power even when they're off, even though it's technically not that much, and they're protected against surges and whatnot. then the single small switch box under the scart ones is just for the few consoles I haven't gotten rgb modded yet, but they're on the way! I'm quite a bit obsessed with switches as you can see)

I've heard people say these work just fine and they don't have issues with them. They're also cheaper and easier to come by.

Nice setup, have been thinking about power switches myself. How much did they cost you? I've been toying with the idea of making my own, but if they are cheap, might not be worth the hassle.
