Thunder Force V saving/loading on Saturn

Been running a Thunder Force gauntlet lately, beating them in release order, and now I'm on V. I read that it's supposed to save your score and I see my save data on the system memory manager, but it doesn't load up when I play the game, and I see no way to save or load data. I also get a foreboding screen at first that says something in Japanese in the middle, and "BACKUP RAM" in the background in tiled boxes. I'm not sure if this is normal.

Any ideas?

Do you see a TFV save file listed in the memory manager? Sounds like you have insufficient system memory to save the game file. How full is your Saturn's on board memory (how many blocks are left)?

It's totally empty except for this TFV save file. And yes, I do see it on the memory manager.

When was the system battery last replaced? When you start up the game.. are your option settings being saved?

I put a new battery in maybe 6 months ago? No, my options are not being saved.

It's possible (although extremely rare) that your console's internal memory is corrupt. Try hitting the master reset switch (located inside the rear of the console next to the battery... if you have a later system, it might not be accessible), or removing the battery to allow the system to clear out everything. If that doesn't work, it might be time to invest in a back-up memory cart.

Also, photos/video of the error you're receiving would also be helpful.

Might be corrupt. May be worth wiping the system memory , and then setting the options in the game and see if they save and load OK.

I changed the battery and it solved the problem (for now). I haven't tried hitting that master button but if it happens again soon I will. Might be investing in a save backup cart...

Here is the error screen below. I asked my brother to translate and he said it was something like "Unable to load record."
