Thanks for the link.

BTW: why do you have a 600x450 sized picture as your sig? A bit large don't you think?

I play shikigami on the pc using arcadeVGA card (wich is Redeon 9250)

Thier min specs say something about Radeon 9000 being required...So it should be as smoothe as shikigami II!

It makes sense, given the Type-X hardware specs. It'll be interesting to see how close it is to arcade-perfect.

I'm really looking forward to Raiden III on PC. Playing it at 1280x1024 native res on my LCD in tate will be very sexy.

While we're here - what other arcade shooters have made it to PC?

Sadly not that many. The only ones I can think of are both Shikis, Raiden 1&2 and Darius Gaiden. Maybe G.Darius and one of the later Rays, but don´t quote me on that. Well, at least the PC has a big enough selection of great non-arcade shooters.

I have the PC version of G-Darius. It loves to crash if I chose certain paths... that and the soundtrack is redbook (the entire game installs onto the hard-drive but still requires the CD if you want to play with music).

I'm pretty sure that Ray-Storm got a PC port (seem to remember seeing it on Himeya).

Hi Guys,

The graphics look better in the PC screenshots than on the PS2? Did they re-work them just for the PC release?

Cheers,
Matt

I recall reading something about PS2 R3 having lower quality textures. This port will be able to be run in several times the resolution of a ps2 on an RGB monitor. So yeah, better graphics. But you get all the disadvantages of PC gaming with it. I'll buy it for ps2 if I ever do but from what I've read it basically removes all the improvements Raiden DX made on the series.

I had another look at the PS2 version just then and it actually looks much better on the monitor since I had it reconditioned.

I think the size of the screenshots for the PC version also helps case. I was in a state of flux and didn't take that into consideration.

It is good that the PC still has the attention of corporate japan. The shmups scene kicks along in a really odd way in that regard.

I'm off to play it now... Pity I can't read the manual. I like the green laser tho :D

Cheers,
Matt

And now the million dollar question. What are the chances of this thing ever making it to The States for those of us without a modded PS2?

Does it matter? It's not like you need to mod your PC in order to play japanese games. ;)

Also, Play-Asia is now taking pre-orders.

Great news indeed :)

Not very likely we'll find boxed copies of the game in stores over here though, and I'm not a credit card kind of guy.

That's what I say for basically any import-only game. Sometimes applies to shipping when they only accept EMS as one of the only reliable methods available.

i understand high import prices, but this is a pc game. they don't have to pay any of the hardware licensing costs. and i know they don't want it cheaper than the ps2 version, but c'mon $70 ?!?

and the shikis are too expensive as well, but mostly that's because i want shiki ex so bad it hurts. :P

I paid around 80 dollars for the Ys: The Oath in Felghana. Then an extra 20 dollars to have Falcom bring it over to my house.

Then again, it came with 7 (I think) music CDs and a portrait stand, not to mention the free promotional CD. Even then, it's a little bit worse than what I got for the World of Warcraft Collector's Edition at around the same price.

Official Japanese PC software is expensive... PERIOD.

And c'mon, Cap... 2 games for $60? That's not so terrible (Shiki EX and Shiki 2):

yeah, just thinking. my only concept of the j-win scene is doujin, and that's cheap by design. my stupid american mind. :B

and yeah kiken, $30 ain't so bad for each game, but i already have shiki II (although, i would like a non-suck cutscene option). and its more than i can throw at this point in time (especially with all of the shwag that just came out, and under defeat coming soon).

playing shiki 1 for the first time in tate was a special moment...

i will never boot MLF2 again!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't there files in the Japanese version of Windows that aren't in the American version? My understanding is that some games and software call on those files, making their being able to be run on US Windows an impossibility.

Probably not an issue. Shiki 1 and 2 both work flawlessly on my comp, as well as the Raidens. From my experience, whatever that's worth, problems arise mostly from doujin games.

The high-res LS-Sound-29 cabs we sell have VGA input, and suport native resolutions of 640x480 up to 1024x768.

29" flat screen CRT at 1024x768 in tate playing Raiden III on a candy. That'll be me, somewhere around March 20 or so. :)

If you are not running windows 2000 or later you will often have trouble with j soft.

WIth windows 2000 and xp, it is usually enough to load the japanese codepage (replacing your \ wit hyen symbols) and you are good to go.

As for PC G-Darius, yes it exists. I havent' seen the crrash, but it looks quite accurate. It ooks to be a port of the ps1 version, but with less slowdown. Since the arcade was ps1 hardware, it's ot suprizing that it looks the same.

I also can confirm Raiden 1 and 2, tempest 2000, and the shiki games.
