Large CRT owners, what stand do you use?
Looking for a stand or cart for my Sony BVM-D32E1WU. Would like to know what other owners of large CRTs such as this one use. Pics would be great.
Thanks

It's a joke. Particle board would easily collapse beneath the weight of a D32.Michael Ikonomidis wrote:Cool.philexile wrote:Plumbing pipe and partical board.Got any pics?

I actually have my CRT resting on the shoulders of a small, incredibly strong Asian man 24 hours a day.

Just got one i found from ebay. It's strong enough to hold mt beast of a monitor. That will probably be your best best.
Though I have been looking into industrialized ergonomic tables/desks. There are some that can hold more than 500 lbs.

In all seriousness, just get a used, solid wood TV stand off of Craigslist. There should be a bunch. I use an old solid wood night stand for my 24" CRT but it could probably hold a 32" CRT.

I built a cabinet out of 3/4" plywood with some 2x4 supports here and there. Don't really trust a walmart TV stand with anything over a 19" CRT

Sure, here you go:

Plumbing pipe isn't super cheap, but its incredibly sturdy. I would also do two things differently:
1. That one shelf is long. I would have made two instead just for better portability.
2. Instead of a dark stain, I would have used a white stain just to be brighter.
Good luck!

Nope – not a joke. Maybe it is plywood though. I'm not sure if there is a difference. Its sold at Home Depot and they can cut it down to whatever size you need.GeneraLight wrote:It's a joke. The wood is supported by plumbing pipe, here is the layout:

That table is a tank. I bet it could hold 3x D32s.

This monitor is incredibly deep. This is why I ended up building my own.

Re: Large CRT owners, what stand do you use?
I found a solid metal w/ glass top one on craigslist that has 4 shelfs for all my consoles. Solid metal beams with a full metal rectangle w/ middle support on the front face to help spread the weight. It's good enough to hold my 34" XBR910 and should be fine for anything up to 300lbs. I also looked at wooden stands on CL too, but nothing in my price range for a CRT was available at the time.

I can attest to this. I did end up finding something on Craigslist, but it took a little while and I may end up doing something like philexile anyway. If you do search Craiglist for something, make sure it's at least 24" deep or so.This monitor is incredibly deep. This is why I ended up building my own.

Re: Large CRT owners, what stand do you use?
Not to hijack the thread, but since there are a couple D32 (this would apply to the D24 too I assume) owners here, I was hoping someone may be able to help me out. I want to get rid of the extra junk that would normally be lost in overscan on my NES and some other systems/games. I know of a way to do it in the e-board settings, but it seems to be universal and not something I can apply to a single channel for each system/game. If anyone knows of a way to do this I would be very appreciative. I'd ask that you either PM me or hop over to the thread (http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=58919) I created about this. Thanks in advance!

I've been needing a new one too, was thinking about buying this for a long time
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A7 ... PDKIKX0DER
Supposedly it can hold up to 200+lbs
Now with that diagram above, I might consider just building my own now.

That doesn't really look deep enough, unless you've got a < 24" TV I'm thinking. A 20" PVM/BVM would probably still be hanging off the edge a bit.BONKERS wrote:I've been needing a new one too, was thinking about buying this for a long time

I searched craigslist for a big crt stand and snagged one.
You KNOW these are up to the task because... well, because they've been made specifically for the use your looking for.

Try a used furniture store. It's where I got my stand. I used it to hold my XBR960, which weighs like 200 lbs.

Re: Large CRT owners, what stand do you use?
My parents have one similar looking to that with a similar depth and it would fit a 27" CRT fine with the back end of the gun extending beyond the stand. Which isn't an issue. You just wouldn't push the stand all the way against the wall.bobrocks95 wrote:That doesn't really look deep enough, unless you've got a < 24" TV I'm thinking. Re: Large CRT owners, what stand do you use?
Unfortunately most of the TV stands these days are made of particle board or glass- enough to support really light weight Flatscreens. If it were a consumer crt id say try to find the stand that was made for that exact model. If you can't find a stand that belongs to that model (like your BVM since they don't exist) just try to find a generic tv stand that was made back in the 90s or whenever back when they were heavy duty- made to support an old Crt. You'll also find they were deeper. Also make sure you consider height. Measure how high the stand is and how high the tv is and make a cardboard mockup- make sure it's at a comfortable viewing height before you buy. Rule of thumb, when sitting in your favorite chair your eyes will be level with the center of the screen.

I use steel wire shelving. Not sure what else to call it. Cheap, easy to disassemble, and holds lots of weight. I think each shelf is rated at 60kg which is perfect for my DX550.

I use two of these:
https://www.bdiusa.com/media-furniture/icon_9429.shtml
One for my 2950Q and one for a LCD setup. The 2950Q is about the heaviest I'd put on it, but it's completely sturdy. I just make sure that the front of the tube is more towards the center of the stand.

I just used a cheap oak entertainment center i got off of craigslist. Its made out of particleboard but i braced the area under the tv with plywood and some 2x2s.
and later, a friend gave me one of those neat 4 shelf open a/v stands that i put next to it. it was made for holding a/v equipment.
