Well let's be crystal clear, TYT is responsible for Energy Transfer Partners losing ridiculous amounts of money if not for killing the DAPL entirely.

They sent a reporter to the scene repeatedly while the mainstream news was looking the other way, and Wes Clark jr. is the face of the 4000 veterans who showed up in support. By the time Trump is in office, ETP will at least have to renegotiate their contract. And since the price of oil is much lower now than when the current contract was negotiated they're losing a shit-ton of money.

So it's not unthinkable that the-powers-that-be want to upvote videos claiming to discredit the young turks.

That said, I really wish Cenk would retire his morning zoo sound effects.
i didn't realise they actually sent people to report on actual news.in all the hours i've watched all ive seen is people in a studio getting angry about "non news" but i'll look into this story.
that theory definitely seems a good enough reason for them to start promoting anti young turk videos i agree but you tube has been acting very funny ever since the election in regards to weird stuff showing up in my feed.
when stefan molyneux videos show up in my feed is when i get angry

I'm getting a lot of 'look at how much of a dunce DarksydePhil is' videos in my feed despite not having typed or clicked anything related to DSP for ages, unless YouTube somehow made a connection between Metal Gear Rising and DSP.

Was dialup really that slow? It took at least two minutes just to load this site's front page! Considering that this site looks like it's from 2003, I doubt it would take that long.

A connection method of 1995/1996 would still take one helluva time to load a site from 2003. Back then mere megabytes were considered a huge download.

Speaking of internet speeds, is 25Mbps download speed and 4Mbps upload speed below average? My dad is thinking of upgrading our house's download speed to 130Mbps. It's currently still good enough to instantly load a 1080p60 YouTube video without ever stopping for buffering.

Depends on where you live, I guess. There are a lot of places I know where you need to pay ridiculous prices for internet, with the best speed plan being around less than 2mbps.

And, yeah, dialup was that slow sometimes...

yes
Hell, forums like this one would have "56k warning" in thread titles if it was expected that there'd be a lot of images linked. In extreme cases, you'd flat out disable images in the browser.
that being said, the front page shouldn't have taken quite so long, text loads quickly for obvious reasons

but all the images and shit would still be loading, and bits of page would be downloaded yet because it was waiting on something earlier on the page to finish loading

A 5MB file would take 30 minutes to download [about 3kB/s average speed]. I'd watch TV while waiting for pages to load, and I'd load a bunch at once. If someone linked me a flash animation, I'd just let it sit downloading in the background for the next ten minutes [like, not even an actual video -- for actual video, I remember waiting an hour for a super-low-quality .mov file when the GBA came out and I wanted to see some of the games].
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

There's also a lot of code and stuff behind-the-scenes in any reasonably recent Forum page.

Man, I remember when everybody at a school would beat the crap out of one T1 line, and you'd be left thinking "15MB? Man, I don't have enough floppies for that and it will take all day." Nowadays Steam finishes delivering files 10 times that size within seconds.

You know what a poor man's MMO was back at the turn of the millennium? Vagabond Quest, that shit was all text based except for some images of navigation buttons. And it still took many seconds between each move. The arrival of cable internet within a few years really sped things up dramatically (for those who got it).

Pinterest.

That it's clogging half of the google image results that are not pr0n, and does that curtain/register thing if you even dare to check (yes mostly by accident since you don't want a damn account).

Just burn that fucking shit website and the bastards who run it.

Why do you keep using "pr0n"? AFAIK, it's like using "teh". Just use "porn".

Even worse when the seller's country is not even given. But seriously, is it really difficult to type something like €, £ or $ whenever you a the number? :3

People who leave the volume up on their phone in the office. At least customise the racket it makes, but no. It's that godawful metallic "ping" and the old school "brring brring". Extra fuck you points if they leave it somewhere and wander off.

That ping sound drives me mad. I played Blade and Soul for a while, and the "enemy spotted you" sound is really similar, so the message ding makes me jump.

If you're going to link something in an email as a demo submission, its best if you keep it up for me to listen. I don't know how many times last year I spent reading emails and clicking on private soundcloud links for them to already be taken down. Within a month! Kinda hard to get on a label if you're not keeping your stuff up long enough for labels to listen.

Why? You can sometimes find decent deals compared with DIY, as long as you know the manufacturer is reputable enough to not use the cheapest shit.

Not everyone who wants to game on PC is enough of a hardware enthusiast to build their own machine.

No, then your not allowed. If you know nothing about building PCs your not allowed to play on PC. Filthy casual. Listen to 0ldssch00l g4ymer pr0 mustard race ag1999!!!

But seriously, thats just stupid. If you know nothing about PCs and hardware thats fine. But people should be smart to look at the prices and not get fooled by "Ultimate Gaming PC" :D

When you try to show someone an album or a video on say, YouTube and they say, "I already don't like it - not my thing" and walk out of the room, completely talk over it or even worse berate it horribly. There has to be a name for that kind of behavior; can't quite put my finger on what it is.

When someone you're with thinks of a funny viral youtube video out of the blue when you're in conversation about something only slightly related to that video, locks it up on their phone and even though you try to make them understand you'd rather keep the conversation going than watch the video, starts it and makes you watch it on their phone. It's not near funny enough to be the viral sensation they claim it to be and when you tell them you don't get what's so funny, they say "you have to watch it 'til the end". Spoiler: there's no silver lining to the video at the end, it's just over.

I'm seeing more and more people getting truly addicted to virals/memes. I mean, truly, literally, addicteds. To the point where they can't talk to you without finding some way to make that reference. There's always something that is kind of related to throw the reference, you know. Even when you're trying to be serious.
I don't usually like to post on this thread, but, man... Also, I realised that the idea of EVERYONE using the same phrases, took from memes, viral, quotes, etc, is more irritating for me than it seems to be for other people. "No. You too saying that same thing?" I think to myself, sometimes, hearing someone repeating something I wouldnt think she would. I don't know if that happens on that level where you live.

I know, it is kind of funny the way i described, but im very serious about how it "annoys the hell out of me"

And since I didn't get a proper answer in the Hardware subforum - what actually makes this RetroPie thing any better than a desktop running emulators in Linux? I understand it does output 240p, but from what I've heard, the necessary power for something like GroovyMAME or higan just isn't there, and of course there's the ever-persistent issue of latency, especially with USB gamepads as the most popular method of input.

Who decided to stick a cumbersome emulator like RetroArch on an underpowered device like the Pi and promote it as emulation's ambassador to the world? And how does every writeup on this manage to sidestep the fact that Stella on Linux is also a thing?

Retro Article on CNet wrote:The Retro Pie can work with either the $25 (£18.65 in the UK, and AU$28.50 in Australia) Raspberry Pi Model A or the slightly more expensive Model B, I recommend the latter. The Model B -- which can be had for $35 in theUS, £27.44 in the UK, or AU$37.35 in Australia -- adds an additional USB port, an Ethernet port, and doubles the memory to 512MB.

It's got a kit like aspect that people like. It's a weekend project.
Also, it's the sort of thing you're going to leave plugged into the TV instead of hauling your computer over there.

but plugging the laptop into the TV is like zero effort

The Pi is meant to be cheap. It exists to be cheap. Everything about the hardware of the Pi is strictly about hitting a price point rather than being properly useful.
It excels at nothing, although it has a fair niche as a wildly overpowered microcontroller for small hobby projects.
Which is a good fit -- you can pretend it's a kind of slow ordinary computer when cobbling together your code and stick it to monitor your plants or whatever after jamming a few sensors and shit on the the pins. Bonus that you can easily control it over the network or whatever. It's a lot less hassle than an Arduino for a lot of tasks like that.
but all those projects are too hard or not relevant for most people and people like the idea of playing retro games, so the little emulation box is the project they settle for
