I saw this, and asked on the NES Classic hacking subreddit if modifying the video filters would be theoretically possible (to add a bilinear filter to the 4:3 mode) and got downvoted lol. Nice to see ROM injection though, that was the #2 item on my wishlist.

Is there any quantifiable benefit to using this - or, for that matter, the inexplicably popular RetroPie and Lakka setups - for emulation over a regular desktop running Linux?

I always see Retroarch on a Pi being touted as this incredible emulation solution and don't really get the appeal.

Probably not except it's an official Nintendo product. The home screen is pretty awesome though- I like the idea of scrolling through games with box art and release dates. It's a model I wish everdrives would follow. As a blockbuster kid myself I would rent a game by its box- a lot of times the game sucked but it was still part of the fun. It's like people who grew up with vinyl- that album art was filled with cool shit while you played the album in its entirety. Our "need it now" generation is missing on some of the finer things in life IMO.

The emulation isn't anything special, but I like the product design, and 30 game choices packaged in appeals to me a lot more than throwing a 700+ ROM set in a folder on a computer... It's all packaging. Even with injectable ROMs I'll probably just fill in a few glaring holes- any more and I know I'll just be unable to decide which to play.

Also you can play with official controller w/o any converters.
Price is ok, i guess. I maybe getting it soon.

That's great to hear that's it's Linux based. I wonder if someone will hack ubuntu in there?

Then again, maybe a shoddy hack box isn't something I need to drain my time into when I own the original hardware to begin with (thanks LEON K)

Great to hear. If they can find a way to remove the image noise and audio quirks, I'd definitely buy this.
