Pretty much my experience. I never saw a courtroom, kinda wanted to in the end.

Well, I was able to beat Mega Man 1 NES in under 6 hours total play time.

My Aunt. She's gone now from the holiday, thank goodness. She's turned into quite the negative person and that's sucky. Negative people in general are sucky, but boy was she on fire with it this past week or so she was here.

I feel that. My parents have both retired and listen to the "news" all day long. (Which mostly consists of *BREAKING ALERTS* and outrage pieces)lilmanjs wrote:My Aunt. My mom turns on talk radio in the bathroom sometimes.
I think there is a rising element of outrage addiction in the US.
There are injustices to be upset about but to internalize that all day long with no actual action is unhealthy.
It's like they're all hyped up and waiting for "SOMEBODY" to take action.
If we just keep hammering outrage "SOMEBODY" will take action.
Also they like to use "we" a lot. Including themselves into groups they hold no membership in.
Also if you have an opinion, you can say "people" instead of just you. This is an attempt to give more weight to an opinion.
"People are saying" is really just a replacement for "I'm saying" that gives a false sense of weight while avoiding taking direct responsibility for your thoughts.

To give an example of the horrific optimization that mesophere-level game engines provide:
This only reaches ~100FPS on a rig with an i5-6600k, GTX 950, and 16GB of 2133MHz 13-15-15-28 DDR4 RAM:
Dear game devs: quit using Unity and read this.

You're bitching about 100 fps performance?

While I do find it annoying, my point was that that would run at at least 500FPS or something if it were made with typical programming languages (and typical optimization). Half-Life has more complex graphics, for fuck's sake.Mischief Maker wrote:You're bitching about 100 fps performance?

And I forgot to mention that it takes up over a gig of RAM.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Trying to do batch conversion with ffmpeg.
This should be really, really simple. I want to bake some subs in and downsample the video. Easy stuff, other than the staring at the ffmpeg docs for half an hour bit. Did a test run on a single file, all good.
Made a script with the whole "for i in *; do; stuff $i; done" thing, dies miserably.
It turns out, there's no easy way to deal with files that have [, (, ], or ) in them other than to go rename them, or none that I'd been able to find without actually asking someone -- initially tried to fix this by doing i="$i" each iteration [also, if anyone knows the right/better way to pass dirty filenames as arguments to things, it'd have solved my entire problem
].
Also, this wouldn't be an issue except for the fact that I needed to bake in subs -- if I just pass $i as the parameter to the subtitles filter, ffmpeg was giving me some weird "no filename provided" error, which made absolutely no sense since $i absolutely held the filename [this is probably another thing that annoys the hell out of me, you should probably be able to tell the filter that the subs are already in the file without needing to repeat the input filename].
so I wrote a little script to clean all characters you can't type directly at the shell without escaping [now the filenames are ugly and start with a '_', but whatever -- and it's not perfect, I wouldn't rely on this to clean things with attempts to run shell commands embedded in the filename]
supposedly, there's a shell command named rename that takes a regex -- but the one on Fedora doesn't, so it's pretty much me just passing the name into sed and using the output from that as the second argument to mv
and then I wrote another quick and dirty script that pretty much consists of
for convenience's sake, and called the first script as an argument to that one, cleaning the entire folder
and then I finally went back to the script I'd made to batch convert the video files, removed the i="$i" line since there's nothing to escape, and now it works
This shouldn't have been this much of a pain. A lot of it is my own inexperience with this sort of thing, but this seems like a common enough scenario that it should be better documented.
I also had a bit where I'd tried using GNU Parallel [which would probably work now that my filenames are clean], but I'd typed over that attempt.
also, the fact that subsequent filter arguments replace the entire filter string instead of appending to it is something that's annoyed me since forever, you have to put all the filter commands in one argument
I guess I get it, but it's annoying and has always bothered me.

And I removed it because I specifically didn't want to cross the line and hurt your feelings. I was hoping I could get rid of it before you saw. I apologize.

And due to English class, I have read three of his works.
"The Raven" makes no fucking sense and isn't scary whatsoever because there's nothing saying, or even implying, that the man can't leave his house and get away from the raven.
That one with the imploding house is kinda weird. Kinda feels spooky for no good reason.
The one about the insane man trying to justify him killing someone was interesting, though.
And on a related note: I think Shakespearean plays are pointlessly tragic. Like what's the fucking point?

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
The Raven is just a symbol of the fact that he'll never see Lenore again. *edit* you could probably find this out by googling it for 5 minutes. But an inability to google would also explain why you have such twisted ideas about fps and frame rates.
Each of Shakespeare's plays has a different theme, so what the "point" is varies. I've read Hamlet about 9 times, and it gets better each time. It's not easy reading, but it's worth it.

The Raven's symbolism is pretty effective imo. Some shit you just can't get away from. 3:
