Post by AndehX »

Can someone please recommend a good (non upscaling) VGA to HDMI converter that does not do this to the image:

I have this one :
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1080P-Audio-VGA ... Swr7ZW54ij
it does a very nice job. I can't spot anything wrong with it; no color tinge, and the colors look right to me

Of course with a Dreamcast plugged into it and the converter plugged straight into an HDTV, you get a squeezed picture. But that's par for the course.

ok cool, and this box doesn't do any upscaling, no? If you put 640x480 VGA into it, you get 640x480 HDMI out of it?

Have you thought about an OSSC?

I use my BVM for gaming. Im using a GBS8200 + hopefully a decent VGA to HDMI converter to go to my capture card for streaming. an OSSC is overkill and too expensive just for streaming. I sold my Framemeister for that reason.

Hold on. If it's just a capture card, does lag matter?

Why are you determined to not have a frame buffer?

The Extron RGB HDMI 300 is selling for about $50 usd right now. Same price as a cheap transcoder and it delivers a nice image. It has a passthrough mode that won't scale. It has a fixed chain; I measured two frames of lag (even in "passthrough"), but that wouldn't matter to you, would it? It would do the job right.

Unlike the cheap Chinese crap, it has an EDID manager. It always delivers the image and audio. Delays the audio to keep sync as well.

Interesting device, although not as cheap over here in the UK. I see one on ebay going for £100
