Gaiares

Post by Dangerous_D »

this is one I wish would get a come back, hell I wouldn't mind seeing an animated movie for it, came out back in the early 90's for Sega Genesis, tough game but fun to play, personally I love the cover art for the Japanese Console

Saw the thread title and thought "How many posts before I see Jamie Bunker?".

Turns out it was one.

kinda wish people wouldn't spam my thread, I joined this forum cause I love playing side and vertical scrolling shooters and I hate how we have a lot of them that don't get released outside of japan

Sorry, that's just the only thing I can think of when I hear about Gaiares. Never played it, somehow.

If you want actual discussion in your thread, maybe have something to discuss about the game specifically? :o

I thought my post was pretty clear, I wanted to see it brought back and even re vamped with animation, been big into Japanese Anime since the 80's growing up as a kid, finally played this game for the first time back in 2009 when I got a Sega Genesis for 25 bucks on ebay, I first saw this game in the EGM 1992 Holiday Buying Guide

^ Yeah, but is there something more specific to discuss about the game? Like the gameplay, weapon system, graphics, or music?

Fair or not, the strongest association Gaiares has in the States is with Jamie Bunker. Thank Renovation for running possibly the most notorious ad campaign in gaming history. I wouldn't call this "spamming your thread".

FWIW, I like the game a lot and would certainly like to see more. As for the cover art, I actually like the clean look of the US version. One thing Reno did right - their covers tended to be nice in general.

I don't know about that. Jamie Bunker is no Johnny Turbo.

Love it. Hard as hell.

Awesome opening movie.
ToZ system is the best.

May Queen Zzbadnusty live forever.

I never saw his ads, the only way I knew about the game was from the 1992 EGM Holiday Buyers Guide, it wasn't until 94 when I was reading Gamefan Magazines, funny how EGM has been around all this time

Yes, the ToZ system is great. Most enemies are good to steal a weapon from, but there are some real losers out there (Somersault Laser is piss weak. One player on Youtube refuses to steal from the satellites in early stage 2 and just shoots them down.) . G-Beam is a winner especially when you max it.

The graphics compare favorably to other 8 Meg Genesis shmups and the BGM isn't bad at all. If someone gives this the HD treatment Assault Suit Leynos got, I'm in.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

EGM was great. They were a great source for objective criticism, but that proved itself a double-edged sword - their brutal honesty attracted customers, and gained their trust, but it kind of scared away the developers of lesser quality titles, making it harder to scrounge up ad revenue. :?

I was a huge fan of Gamefan back in high school. I had a subscription from 93 until they ceased operations. I did follow them to Gamer's Republic and eventually Play.

What's my point? You may enjoy this read:

Nice. Is there a translation of the JP manual and box? I'm curious what is up with the woman on the cover. Is she an in game character, or are the developers just huge fans of Dejah Thoris?

Superb game of the previously 'affordable MD wonders'.

Love the 70~80 JP scifi style and atmosphere, like Phantasy Star into shmup.

Only thing I didn't like about it is the very final levels, adding lenght for shit: unnecessary boss rush and crappy final boss.
In place an additional difficulty level + TLB/true ending formula would have been much better.

I believe the Naked Woman on the Japanese Cover was the Main Villian

Oh man.. this wonderful to behold. I can remember poring over the screens and details when first seeing this. I love the game and the theme! Interesting, exciting bosses and the enemy/weapon system always had you wondering "what else can I get" when seeing new baddies.
Making an action platformer with a transforming grappling hook: ChainStaff. Also made a shmup with multi-ships: Shoot 1UP DX, and more .

She is in the intro: She's actually the empress that promises to restore the earth to its former non-shithole state if you manage to blow up the evil terorist ZZ BADNUSTY. :o :o :o

Wow, that is some terrible cover art!

I guess Americans couldn't handle anime covers back then.
