I'm not a "collector" but dammit GameStop (rant)

Post by Pixel_Outlaw »

For some reason in particular I feel the need to rant about what GameStop has done to the Nintendo DS library of games.
I'm not a collector. However GameStop has DESTROYED the hope of getting a case and booklet with DS games at reasonable cost ANYWHERE.

I can't speak to your respective regions but here in the US many GameStop stores throw away all but the cartriges.
So everything used is filtering through GameStop and all cases and art have been chucked thanks to GameStop having a resale monopoly.
Sure they'll sell games new with the case, but a few months later that new game will come back and there goes the booklet and case.

I'm sorry, I know this is old news but it just makes me unreasonably more angry than it should as I look to get some games I missed the first time.
They're trashing a lot of art and manuals that I'd love to have. It's affecting everything from pawn shops to eBay (3rd hand sellers).

Yes, I know this has been a problem since the NES days.
But man the DS cases are small and durable.
GameStop is a big fat corporate sow with a few million teets spewing out sour milk that people seem to squeal at while they get shit on.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

I think the new games being labeled as used when a new system comes out has been happening with EB/Gamestop since the Dreamcast. I find it annoying too, especially when they started doing it with GBA and DS games. At least with some of the disc games, the games were left complete, but GBA and DS games were left with just the cart. Not to mention that the price was no less than other stores selling the game NIB. While GBA games had boxes rather than nice cases, I found Gamestop's silliness just as irritating with them since it made certain games harder to find NIB and GBA games often had nice manuals.

GameStop is indeed scum of the earth, and noone seems to care that they're getting pennies from games they spent $60 on. People legitimately believe that's normal, and this happens to tie in to perception of a game's value.

One day games are going to disappear, and even then people still won't understand that $60 is cheap and not enough for any big game to make anything, without either selling millions upon millions or having a really shitty development cycle.

I find it shocking a model like Gamestop can exist when it's so easy to sell used (Ebay) these days.

People are lazy and silly but I agree: why spend loads of cash on a game then trade it in for peanuts - there is a reason some of us have valuable collections these days: we never traded in and just kept our games and watched the prices rise.

I had no fucking idea they were doing that. I was a bit baffled that so many people managed to lose their game cases.

Anyway, anyone know the best site to buy a shitload of guns and bombs, and a plane ticket to Dallas?
Fuck off, NSA.

Some good thoughts everyone.
The problem in general is people funding bad ideas.
I don't care so much when they shoot themselves in the foot, my problem comes when they fund ideas that hurt MY options.
You just can't stop the masses from dumping their pockets on GameStop when they're so weak to advertisement.

I've always taken care of my things and been appreciative of what I own.
To see a corporation just destroying things for no reason is really sad.

Gamestop annoys me to no end. Even if they held onto those cases, they would have so many stickers on them they would be ruined anyways. I don't know what kind of adhesive they use, but I've ripped off the outer layer of PS2 cases from buying used games from that store (back when I actually shopped there). Sometimes they even put stickers on the sleeve inside the case just in case you weren't pissed off enough.

Then there's the policy of all used games almost always being a dollar or two less than a new copy. New $60.....used $55. New $30....used $27...etc. The used copies are often in absolutely terrible shape and missing manuals and sometimes even cover art too. Every now and then you'll see a special deal where you buy two and get one free......at those prices they should always be B2G1F!!! Who the hell is keeping this company in business? I'm sure not giving them my money.

Last time I almost shopped there I wanted a copy of the MGS collection on my Vita, and didn't want to wait a couple days for amazon shipping. I call, yeah they have it....the price is $5 more than amazon, but what the hell....I can get it now. I go to pick it up........it's USED. Why would I pay more for used than someone else is selling it for new? I told them they must be high...

By the way are you a rewards member? No? Did you know it only takes seconds to sign up? Here take a pamphlet on the perks! Hold on I'll calculate the savings you'll get today if you do it right now. Man you must not like saving money! Is there anything you'd like to preorder? Based on the game you're purchasing, I'm going to rant for 10 minutes about upcoming games on the system you appear to own in hopes that I can hard-sell you on at least one pre-order. Did you know that if you sign up for our rewards program before you pre-order, you'll get a 5% bonus on trade-ins towards it?

Some of us just want to buy a game in peace and be on our way. At least I can buy a game from walmart without having to listen to a salesman for an eternity. To sum up my rant "yes they deserve to die, and I hope they burn in hell"

I dunno why one would bother with GameStop. Haven't bought a game from them in like 4 years now.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Bitched about this back in 2004. Though it wasn't DS games then, but rather GBA.
Fucking moron public what do you expect?

Well, yeah, this is an obscenity against humanity. But it feels like there's a gif that sums all this up...
