I just assumed that, after 80+ hours in Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu or whatever, a slightly sharper picture would make a world of difference to the player.

you know what gives you the sharpest picture in DFK? playing the HD port on a good, low lag modern monitor
if anything, having black lines across the screen screws up your vision a tiny bit, not improve it

fun fact: I accidentally had my 360 cable set to composite instead of RGB and I didn't notice it for several months
it doesn't really make it any sharper, you can see stuff just fine with composite, just the colors are a bit better

I remember once, when I was in grad school and very poor, I had a little bit of money to spend around my birthday. I was thinking of buying myself a present. Then, on the morning of my birthday, I was riding my bicycle to work. I lived in Manhattan at the time, so I was riding up park avenue. I got pulled over by a police officer who gave me a moving violation for being across the line at a red light. Only time such a thing ever happened to me or anyone else I have ever known. Holy F@#$ing hell I was pissed off. On my birthday no less. The ti let was like $250 bucks, no more present.

It was all just a dream/coma/simulation endings in stories are almost universally trash. It's a plot twist that pretty much invalidates the story.

It's hard to truly spoil stories as brutally stark as SH1's, or as well-nuanced as SH2's. Speaking as a huge SH1-4 fan who casually browsed the first's endings in Tips & Tricks years before I considered playing it, and who had the second's pivotal moment spoiled by a remarkably moronic SH1 FAQ author ("email me if you want to know stuff about the rest of the series, like why [SH2 spoiler] happened!" Thanks buddy!).

Quite literally the Bad End. There are basically two outcomes, with a minor variant possible on each for a total of four endings. The game labels them Good/Good+ and Bad/Bad+. Direct sequel SH3 rules out the latter but fuck that tbh. Anthology approach all the way in my horror house.

I'm a little ticked off about that. It definitely removes the creepiness to know it's all a dream.

Keep in mind, it's very distinctly the "did not finish/try again" outcome. The only way to receive it is to skip a significant chunk of the game's content (easily done, by design! don't sweat this either... KCET were clearly going for replay incentive, rather than multiple equally valid outcomes)

Also who gives a crap about the endings, they're of little interest compared to the journey packed with goodness, and this is not when you learn most of the story anyway.
Agreed with Blinge the story isn't well told, but it's a survival-horror gaem, not a movie.
