It was an adventure for sure! We did a bunch of game hunting also which was really fun! The snowstorm was a real bummer though. White knuckle driving for many hours.Shoryukev wrote:That's one heck of a trip!!! I'd love to have even just one of those, congrats on the find!
Thanks!! I am a video/photo nerd and have a bunch of ideas for different things to put on the screens to record, daisy chain etc. My friend has an NEC 3PG which is pretty much identical so we'll be able to get 5 monitors together to make some cool shots happen. And then at the end of the day it's feeling good to have some backups in case something happens to my main gaming rig. These things aren't getting any younger, and I don't know who the heck in the midwest would be willing to try and fix one.. I sold a Sony PVM-20M4U to help fund the trip/monitors. Sort of bittersweet, but I am VERY excited. Hoping to have time to clean them up this week.buttersoft wrote:Amazing score.
So... what are you going to do with 4 of them?
Hell no!FinalBaton wrote:Is it just me or having four of those is kinda excessive? I dunno *scratches head*
No, I'm happy with just the one I gottacoguy64 wrote:Hell no!

I've always had at least one backup monitor since I started doing the RGB thing. Now I have 3 backupsFinalBaton wrote: No, I'm happy with just the one I got
I only need one monitor to play, lol
You'd choke on your coffee. It was an amazing deal haha. Now to flip them all on ebay for $1000speedlolita wrote: Depends how much he paid for them really.
Thank you!SNK-NEO-GEO wrote:Congrats man:) I am super jealous:)
I feel the same way. My PVM was sharper, but the screen size of the XM29, combined with multisync and the more organic look of the shadow mask makes it my monitor of choice every time. It's great being able to sit back from it as well and play with other people instead of huddling around a 19" screen. I'm going to keep them for the foreseeable future. I'll make room.retrorgb wrote:I absolutely LOVED my XM29. It wasn't as sharp as my BVM, but it looked amazing and was often the monitor I chose to game on. If you have the space to keep them...keep ALL of them, since it's really hard to get parts for them.
LOL, if you ever decide to sell one though, email me!
I can appreciate your opinion. I have some fun plans for them. Also, I put in the work to find them (they weren't listed for sale anywhere), worked my job to make the money to buy them, then took time off of work and drove 22+ hours round trip to pick them up in a snowstorm. The community didnt do that, i did. I'm not going to feel bad for enjoying the fruits of my labor.philexile wrote:Wouldn't it be better for the community to sell at least two of those? Keep one as spare, but 4x of these monitors is a little excessive.

I'd say give it time. If he finds he's not using them, he'll move them on. If he is using them, then his reply was your answer.philexile wrote:Wouldn't it be better for the community to sell at least two of those? Keep one as spare, but 4x of these monitors is a little excessive.

Cool – what are you thinking of trying? I would suggest a video wall if you have the space.aaronmjr wrote: I have some fun plans for them.

I'm not trying to belittling your efforts and definitely not trying to make you feel bad!aaronmjr wrote: worked my job to make the money to buy them, then took time off of work and drove 22+ hours round trip to pick them up in a snowstorm. Ha, yes! Enjoy your find!aaronmjr wrote: Or maybe your statement was meant as sarcasm and I just ran the other direction with it.
When I run out of ideas for things to try down the line, I'm sure I'll probably let a couple go. Probably years down the line though. We'll see.buttersoft wrote: I'd say give it time. If he finds he's not using them, he'll move them on. If he is using them, then his reply was your answer.
Definitely! I've called TV studios, community colleges, medical equipment resellers, recycling centers, setup google notifications, used "if this than that" and hundreds of craigslist searches through "Search Tempest" and general Google searches. Many many hours were put in. I'm not complaining, it was fun to try to think of new ways to track these things down.SNK-NEO-GEO wrote:Just be happy for the man and his new toys and let him enjoy the monitors.. I have an NEC 29plus version and it is a great monitor.. Do the work until one of this pop up locally and be ready to jump on it:).. I am currently looking for another so I can place it vertically for Mame SHMUPS:)
Definitely some video wall style stuff! Spreading various pictures and video across the screens. Not just duplicated, but parts of images on each while in as many different configurations as I can.philexile wrote: Cool – what are you thinking of trying? Michigan. They were in a guy's basement. He's an artist and they were part of an installation he had in a gallery back in 2012. He drove from Michigan to Minneapolis to get them originally, and I brought them back to Minneapolis.philexile wrote:Where did these come from?
No worries, I've just heard a few similar comments on all of the places I've posted about this saying "Don't hog them you selfish jerk" so I felt the need to share my thoughts.philexile wrote:I'm not trying to belittling your efforts and definitely not trying to make you feel bad!

How's the geometry on that beast?philexile wrote:You guys cray cray. I have two monitors already – no more!
I met Philexile and he is a great guy with a deep knowledge on Sony's BVM's.. He even fixed my BVM32 color issues when he picked up the BVM32 case.. He is not being serious at all and I am sure everyone knew that:)Lord of Pirates wrote:Maybe I'm an idiot but I'd hazard a guess that philexile isn't being SUPERDUPERSERIOUS with that post.
