Do you leave you DVDO in standby?

When I first got my DVDO VP50 Pro last year I thought it was weird that you couldn't turn it off unless you pulled the power. I get the point of the standby, but it still pulls like 4 amps in this mode .

I've been pulling the power everytime. Do you leave yours in stand by?

Yeah, technically the FPGAs keep running and there is no real standby. Better to pull the power....

If you have an outlet that is linked to a secondary wall-switch, you could conveniently run the DVDO and other limited use items through it. I keep one switch for lights and one for retro-gizmos, so I flip the second switch only when gaming and shut everything off when done.

I never leave any of my video processors in standby, I always have them connected to a power switch that turns them off completely.

technically we should all probably do this with electronic devices that aren't mission-critical or need perfectly accurate Time, as all of them are energy vampires that needlessly waste power and add to our yearly electricity costs.

Oops, I actually misread, I have a VP50 which has a similar issue, but not quite VP50 Pro levels. That said if I had a VP50 Pro I would probably just get a fan and still run it 24/7. I just don't have a convenient way to cut power to all my stuff when I'm not using it at the moment.

I added a fan to the bottom of mine. I put a little epoxy on rubber stand offs and the fan just sits on them. The unit never gets warm anymore like it used to with just the two stock fans.

The unit I got was originally in the rackmount, so I've since added some rather larger rubber feet. So the bottom of the unit sits about 3/4" - 1" from the table.

You can also see a few heatsinks on some smaller IC's. I did thermal testing on all the ic's and some of those got really hot, around 60-70C

I have a thin 140mm fan sitting on top of my 50Pro. It's powered through one of the trigger ports on the machine. This way you can control the fan using the trigger settings within the DVDO's menu.

I assume we could do the same but inside the casing ?
In any case this is a must considering how insane summers have become around here, and used vp50pro's don't exactly grow on trees. :p
