Where to get DVDO iScan VP50 power supply

Post by SNK-NEO-GEO »

Hello.. I am looking for a DVDO VP50 power supply.. I was looking at eBay and the listing bellow shows up, seems to be a bootleg version.. Will that work or is there another alternative that you guys can recommend. Thank you in advance for your input.

The ones DVDO originally supplied are expensive ($100+) and not of much better quality. I wouldn't buy an AC adapter though which doesn't show any output rating (there are blurred on all pictures). VP30 PSUs had 6V at 5A. 50Pros has 7A. I don't have the original VP50 specs on hand right now, but I assume it was in the middle.

Don't buy the Chinese bootleg. It's not even remotely in spec. When I had to find a power brick for my iScan HD, I stumbled across these these folks in the UK. As far as I know they are the only place in the English speaking world that has a decent, in-spec 6V 5A power supply:

I received it in about 2 weeks, worked flawlessly and was solidly built.

I can't speak for a regular vp50 but for a time I ran my vp50pro with the same ebay power supply accaris provided you.
It worked well but the power supply was getting really hot. But as Fudoh said the vp50pro is rated 7A so maybe it's okay for the non pro version.

In the case you'll have the same problem, now I run my vp50pro with this :
https://www.adafruit.com/products/658
It's a 5V power supply instead of 6V, but my DVDO run fine with it. And it's rated 10A so I have some margin. And the power supply and the cable are a bit beefier than the ebay one and seems better quality too (at least from a visual standpoint, I didn't open neither of the two to see what's inside).

If that can help...

@Joelepain: great link to that 10A one! Definitely need to check where I can pick one up here in Europe... Are polarity and size of the connector right for the VPxx out of the box ?

Polarity is ok.
Size seems a very little loose, but I had never have an original DVDO psu to compare. But it's exactly the same as the ebay one. Maybe it's normal. Maybe it's the plug of my DVDO that is a little bit damaged.
