Hi guys. I stripped down my white PC Engine to do the jailbar fix and I came across this mod work. There is no damage to the case of the console and it still has the RF unit. I'm using it on an IFU that is RGB amped and it doesn't seems to be causing any problems.
Well here is my 5 pence, there is a diode missing possibly a power diode and if you look the wire its going from diode to the extension port and the pin its connected to is a power pin, so to me its looks like a power bypass i think the pc engine had a fault at some point and they bypassed the power and i bet if you disconnected the wire from the extension port the pc engine wont power on.

Or it could just be rats.
I looked at this again. You got me thinking. Perhaps its a way to power the unit externally from the expansion bus.
No, you can already do this using the Vin pin on the ext port. The thing is, if you look at the ext port pin that wire goes to, nothing really makes sense. It is neither a gnd, Vout, Vin or an audio pin.

I'm saying turn the unit on. Unless that is what you meant.
The wire looks like it goes to VIN pin on the bus to me?
You are right, it is the Vin pin then. That makes much more sense now. I read that when powering the console from Vin it bypasses the power button on the front of the console. Maybe the mod is to restore the power button function.
Or maybe it is repairing something that broke. You can test it by removing the wire to the pin and trying to turn on the machine using a IFU-30 interface unit.
That's pretty much what i was getting at, it looks like if you remove that wire from the extension port the pc engine wont power on. this must have been done for a fault as i don't see way you would do it otherwise.
yeah but why would they want to also have the power switch on the grafx working? the whole idea of the vin pin on the expansion connector is so that the cd dock can turn on the console at the same time as the cd drive.
