New Gamerz Tek NES clone promises 480p over HDMI. Thoughts?

Post by accaris »

Information is sparse: http://www.gamerztek.com/product-p/8-bit-hd.htm
The original Gamerz Tek system was composite only and even though it was a little cheap feeling, the system had high compatibility for a clone (it could play Castlevania III, for instance.) Is this an emulator box? Could it be a "budget" alternative to the RetroUSB AVS?

The price makes it clear that it's either a NOAC or an emulator.

The original was a NOAC. The question is, are they just doing passthrough of composite video quality to HDMI, or is the unit going to actually upscale or reprocess the image? I contacted them asking for more info, but no response yet.

In that it's powered by an FPGA that is implementing a NES, sure. But it's not what we'd traditionally call an NOAC, even if it meets the technical definition of that.

This video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YlJYaJvJH4 has some footage. Actually looks ok. No composite or deinterlacing artefacts, so at least it's genuine HDMI , even if just at 480p.
