Help! NVIDIA Drivers Not Installing

Post by fallingpancake »

My computer is prompting me saying that there is an update available for my GeForce GTX 970. I open up the NVIDIA control panel and it goes through the process of installing the update. However, at the end it keeps saying that it failed installing the nvidia drivers! Has any one ever ran into this problem?

Thanks for the help!

Edit: Fixed it! If any one else has this issue I found the fix to nvidia drivers not installing here:

I think the problem was my wifi connection was not stable enough. I hook it up with an Ethernet cable and it downloaded and installed successfully. :)

Does it give you any kind of reason for the failure? Have you tried manually downloading the latest driver from their site directly?

Yes, this is a pretty common occurrence.

How to fix it:
- Go to nVidia's site and manually download the latest drivers (the recent batch seems pretty good)
- Uninstall the drivers
- Run DDU (Guru3D has it available)
- DON'T let Windows automatically reinstall the drivers, just install the drivers you downloaded before. Check the "clean installation" option, too.

Make sure to only select those driver components you use - i.e. the display driver, PhysX. Don't install the HD audio driver, 3D vision, etc. if you don't use it. Same for Geforce Experience - you always get the nVidia Control Panel on the desktop.

It's always tempting to let drivers auto-install themselves, but installing fresh drivers from a new driver package seems more stable.
