OSSC Display Problem
Hello!
I finally got an OSSC after waiting for months, but so far not so good. This is the only picture I'm getting from it on both of the displays I've tried it on (Dell S2716DG and Asus VS229H-P)
http://imgur.com/a/y8R0d
The S2716DG has no DVI port, so I used a DVI to HDMI cable and I thought that was the problem, but I got the same results on the VS229H-P.
I really hope my unit isn't damaged and there's a fix for this. Any help is appreciated, regardless.

Re: OSSC Display Problem
You have to choose a source using the number keys on your remote or the left hardware button on the unit itself.

Do you mean in the output options? I've tried changing from/to HDMI and DVI but nothing's changed.Thomago wrote:You have to choose a source using the number keys on your remote or the left hardware button on the unit itself.

Re: OSSC Display Problem
You have to select an input, not the output. The OSSC has three inputs (SCART, VGA, Component), and for each input there are multiple sync options that sort of act like independent inputs in terms of selecting them.
So if you're using the SCART input with a typical retro console, you would need to select both the SCART input (AV1) and the sync type of RGBS.

Re: OSSC Display Problem
That did the trick! I did that before but the only thing different I just did now is turning the OSSC off and on again. I'm so glad the unit's fine and thank you very much for the help!Guspaz wrote:You have to select an input, not the output. Re: OSSC Display Problem
However, I just ran into another problem. The picture flickers sometimes and the screen tears when that happens. What are the ideal settings for a 240p/288p source?

Re: OSSC Display Problem
It depends on the console. Most devices work on the default settings, but some can require tweaking.
Which system are you having issues with? There are various things that can be tweaked. One common problem console is the SNES, which often requires you to modify the sync LPF (low-pass filter) setting.
EDIT: This page serves as the official manual of the OSSC (Marqs is one of the maintainers): http://junkerhq.net/xrgb/index.php/OSSC
It has info on the different settings, and information on some specific consoles.

Using a SNES and figured. It's always the one that won't get along with upscalers/line doublers/triplers.Guspaz wrote:It depends on the console. Most devices work on the default settings, but some can require tweaking.

I looked up that page but I can't find something regarding my problem. I'll keep looking though and I'll try what you suggested.

Re: OSSC Display Problem
Flaky sync with the SNES often requires reducing the sync LPF value. It's off by default (most systems don't need an LPF on the sync), but the SNES can sometimes require setting it as low as 2.5 MHz. There are three settings to try (other than off), 33MHz (the least filtering), 10MHz (medium filtering), and 2.5MHz (max filtering). Try each of them and pick the one that works for you that has as little filtering as possible.

Re: OSSC Display Problem
I tried them all and unfortunately it's nowhere near playable on any of them. Maybe I'll have better luck with my SNES 1. I've only tried this with my SNES mini and I've always had little to no issues with my fat SNES when it comes to picture stability.Guspaz wrote:Flaky sync with the SNES often requires reducing the sync LPF value. Re: OSSC Display Problem
There are other settings that might help, and it's generally low-risk to try playing with them, because as long as you don't save the settings, you can just switch the OSSC off and on again to reset the settings.
I had an issue that sounds like yours with my Wii, when it was running 240p and connected through the GARO. I found that it only had stable sync when I set the h.sync tolerance to 12.30 or higher. I don't think my problem is related to yours at all (I think mine is something to do with voltage or grounding), but worth a try?

Re: OSSC Display Problem
Oh wow, the fat SNES was even more unstable. I also tried 12.30 h.sync tolerance but it didn't do much. I even tried using Sync Strike in between and still not really much of a difference.Guspaz wrote:There are other settings that might help, and it's generally low-risk to try playing with them, because as long as you don't save the settings, you can just switch the OSSC off and on again to reset the settings.

Re: OSSC Display Problem
Which game/s are you trying with the mini? With sync LPF off, mine works fines with SMK, F-Zero and NBA Jam, but Ghouls 'n' Ghosts suffers from glitchy sprites.

Alright, apparently it was my 1st monitor. I just tried it with my 2nd monitor and the picture's completely stable, even line tripling worked perfectly. I guess the OSSC doesn't get along with higher than 1080p res displays.

It works quite well on my 2560x1440 monitor.

Is it a G-sync monitor?Guspaz wrote:It works quite well on my 2560x1440 monitor.

Re: OSSC Display Problem
No, the Dell U2711. It predates g-sync existing by 4 years or so.

Re: OSSC Display Problem
Hmm.. That could be the reason why this won't work well for me. Hopefully an upcoming firmware update would fix this.Guspaz wrote:No, the Dell U2711. It predates g-sync existing by 4 years or so.
