Hi all, just a quick one.
I'm currently designing a multi console stand system for linking a lot of consoles together with good cable management etc.
To save weight (and to get rid of the huge plug on the MD and the Transformer "Block" of the SNES) I bought some replacement switched mode power supplies on eBay.

The items arrived, and they are identical!
Is this correct?
They are both 9V, 1.5A, center negative, with the same sized tip.
Thanks in advance.

Re: MegaDrive 2 and SNES Power Supplies
Do you have a MegaDrive 2 or 1? You bought a PSU for the MegaDrive 1, but your title says MegaDrive 2. They actually have different polarities.
The original PAL SNES power supply is just a transformer that outputs AC, so you can use either AC or DC with center negative or center positive on the PAL SNES (but not the NTSC SNES or Super Famicom). Also the NTSC SNES has a different plug shape than the PAL and Japanese versions.

Wow, that's pretty complex.blizzz wrote:Do you have a MegaDrive 2 or 1? You bought a PSU for the MegaDrive 1, but your title says MegaDrive 2. They actually have different polarities.

So the PAL MD1 and SNES are the same, but the PAL MD2 is a different sized tip but still 9V 1.5A?
I've got both an MD1 and MD2, for some reason I thought they had the same adapter, obviously not!
Thanks for your help!

Doesn't the PAL SNES require 9V AC to generate 12V DC for autoswitching?blizzz wrote:The original PAL SNES power supply is just a transformer that outputs AC, so you can use either AC or DC with center negative or center positive on the PAL SNES (but not the NTSC SNES or Super Famicom).

Re: MegaDrive 2 and SNES Power Supplies
No, the SNES can generate 12V DC with 9V DC input just fine. While testing that I also found out that both my PAL SNES cables don't even have the 12V Pin connected. On one it's connected to 5V on the other it's not connected at all.
