CRT issue help plz
So, my CRT, which is a consumer sony trinitron, has started playing up. When i turn it on now it seems like it's going onto standby, then when i press one of the channel numbers to turn it on by the remote it sounds like it's firing up then just sort of gives up and stays on standby. anyone have any idea what could be causing this and if it's something i could likely fix, or is this simply the end?

Anything can be fixed if you have the right skills. Consumer sets were built to be competitive in terms of prices, as such they often used suspect components that led to well known failure points. Try searching for old forum posts about your particular model number as well as appropriate key words. If the fault is well known for your particular set then you should find information on what has gone wrong, and how it is fixed.
Sometimes it is just a simple component such as a commonly available IC that fails, in which case you can fix it yourself easily if you know how to solder. If searching does not net any results I recommend getting a replacement set while CRT's are stille easy to come by.
The less used a CRT is the longer it will last. It goes without saying that pro CRT's were built with longevity in mind, over price point, so unless they have already been heavily used they will last you a lot longer than consumer models. In my mind their longevity is where the real advantage of pro CRT's lie.
