Always loved that Goemon cover (one of my favourites from the "covers made of clay" thread) ; never played the game itself much, but I recently discovered my golden age Konami hero Shigeharu Umezaki worked on it prior to Salamander & co, so I've a latent interest. Out of curiosity, how does it compare to the SFC action/RPG Goemon quartet? Some of my favourite "casual" 2D action games, those - not the most hardcore but totally solid and immaculately produced by Umechan & co.

Incidentally (regarding your recent posts on Abadox), Mad City/Bayou Billy's composer later did Final Mission's soundtrack - going back and listening to the former it's really obvious (same distinct drum sound). The KoNatsume connection features some quality people. ^__^

Picked up Chiki Chiki Boys not long ago myself - honestly, even if it weren't such a rollicking good run n' slasher, I'd have been compelled by those colours. It's remarkable how bright and sunny it looks; not a trace of the MD's characteristically harder/darker palette, something I get a strong hint of even in its flagship cuter stuff like Sonic/Ristar. I think only Monster World IV rivals Chiki, from what I've seen. And maybe Alex Kidd, but that one's art style is nowhere as charming (kinda fugly imo).

Thanks for the heads up about the Natsume connection regarding Kiyohiro Sada! The heavily percussive, latin-esque style is definitely the common thread through all his works, I feel. And I find Mad City's a particularly great example.

While the first FC Goemon is very straightforward, Goemon 2 is pretty much a blueprint for the SFC Goemons, so expect very similar stuff, varied locations, lots of houses to visit with funny stuff happening, etc. It's probably not a "must-have" as there's at least 5 other entries in the series one should be playing first, but certainly worth bagging if you, like me, find it for ultra-cheap.

Chiki Chiki Boys on Mega Drive is a really great port, better than the PC Engine version. My go-to pastel colored MD game of choice would have to be Magical Taruruuto-kun though. From looks alone you'd think it was Super Famicom.

The reason I haven't been posting much on this thread lately:

My wife and I just closed on our brand new house this morning. It's been a long arduous process getting through all the paperwork, and I'm glad to be finally done with all of it.

How much space does it have for video games? I can't wait to move out and get an apartment; I'll have so much more space than my room.

It's not huge (around 1,850 square feet plus the garage) but it is nearly twice as big as our previous apartment, so plenty of space. I owned a vertical Jamma cab (albeit a rather ghetto one) a few years ago back when I was single and still have my collection of boards. I'd love to get a candy cab or a pinball table one of these days, but I seriously doubt I could ever convince my wife to let me get one at this point. I do look forward to putting together a little workshop in the garage though.

We were lucky that we had the a place to stay (with my sister-in-law) for a few months so we could wait for construction. It was cool watching the progress as it was built, and being able to buy new meant we didn't have to compete with half a zillion other people in a rather competitive housing market.

a lot of the new homes being built around here tend to be closer to 3,000 square feet (280 square meters) so a house this size is still considered to be on the smaller side of things for a single family house. It's definitely a seller's market around here right now, so a lot of builders are building them as big as they can because people are buying them. The house next to my sister-in-laws place got torn down a couple of years ago and the lot got subdivided in two and they built two houses (one 2,900 square feet and one at 4,000 square feet) and sold them for $800k apiece. And this wasn't a particularly big lot either. This place is quite a bit farther from my job (it's in Lake Stevens, somewhat rural area about 30 miles north of Seattle) but it's pretty much where we had to go in order to find something in our price range that wasn't a condo. To give some idea, there's a 1,620 square foot (~150.5 square meter) 3 bedroom 3 bath house built in 1963 near my sister in law (in Kirkland) selling for $480k right now. That was more than $100k outside of our budget on this place.) If you get into Seattle proper or other parts of the Eastside (like Bellevue or Issaquah) the prices get even more ridiculous.

Just got two more 90cm 100% silk Hermes scarves, it's an illness. But I've wanted this design for nearly a decade and these two colorways are hard to find and perfect imho. They were second hand but both near mint which is rare for a early 1990's issue. Priced rather fairly at $190 and $300 respectively.

Dennin Aleste is the latest purchase, but I couldn't resist taking a photo of the Mega CD games together.

FFCD and Dennin were my two first Mega CD pickups, rock-solid stuff that flies in the face of FMV stereotyping. I'm strongly considering Starblade too, which of course uses FMV for the forces of arcade goodness. I know there were closer ports on later gens, but as you know, I always find well-done downsizes charming. That packaging is beautiful, at any rate. Love the blood-red spine on the blue cover.

A few years ago the Hermes store here hosted what they called the Festival des Meiters (Festival of the Makers) where they provided a demonstration of the screen printing of scarves. It seems to be a rather labor-intensive process, and was fascinating to see.

Funny thing about Dennin Aleste and Starblade is that both were bit cheaper than the cheapest one on eBay without spine. Discs seem to be near mint too. They were both from Japangamestock. Prices are a bit higher on some things than they used to be, but they no longer have extra fees and they still have some good deals.

Finally got around to getting a Lynx:

I picked up a few backup wallets because mine is on its last legs. Mighty wallets are pretty great, mine has lasted about 5 years or so:

Oh that's awesome you got to see that! Yeah they used to be totally hand screen printed, these days there are machines that mass produce them but there is still tons of man hours involved with the process.

Uhhh....the only new thing was an RF demodulator; had that BVM before I even registered here.
Before you call me a complete fucking retard, hear me out: I'm going to get it RGB modded really soon, but I got the demodulator first because it was only $20, and it could be useful for consoles that don't have any way to get something better than RF (though I don't know if any exist, besides Pong consoles). I'm going to buy an NES RGB. I have RGB cables for my other consoles on the way.
