The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
I'm potentially ready to shelve my Wii U. After SM3DW, I only have Xenoblade Chronicles X and Project Zero lying around. Has anyone of you played them? If so, what did you think of them? (I'm pondering just ebaying those games as I'm on the fence.)
For calibration: I don't play many RPGs as I find them too longwinded. I enjoyed FF VI and VII. I loved Grandia II on DC and Chrono Trigger, which both are really fun and of a nice length. Skies of Arcadia was great too, but it overstayed its welcome. The last (A)RPG I played was The Witcher III, which I generally enjoyed, despite the simplistic combat. I thought it was a bit too long, though. Lenght per se is not the problem, but I dislike long drawn-out resolutions and meandering story lines (Witcher III), if the actual gameplay is not very satisfying.

If you already shelled out, would you really make your decision whether to play them conditional on someone else's opinion?

Well, both are currently still unwrapped, and would of course fetch a higher price as opposed to selling them used.Obiwanshinobi wrote:If you already shelled out, would you really make your decision whether to play them conditional on someone else's opinion?

Xenoblade X is really fun. Story is kind of crap (at least up to the point where I am), but it's gorgeous to look at and it's got smooth, addictive gameplay.

Get Devil's Third, it's secretly really good
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
I played through it already and liked it quite a bit. It's not GOTG material, but nonetheless a rather solid game. I wrote a short review in this thread some time ago.iconoclast wrote:Get Devil's Third, it's secretly really good

More like fucking gorgeous. Wish Xenogears was remade in the same veins.Austin wrote:Xenoblade X is really fun. Story is kind of crap (at least up to the point where I am), but it's gorgeous to look at and it's got smooth, addictive gameplay.

Devil's Third is pretty good, and certainly a lot better than mainstream reviews may indicate.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
It reviewed pretty well in Japan. The game has some major issues, but it has good mechanics and level design. If anything, Devil's Third taught me to never doubt Itagaki+Ehara+Matsui, because they can deliver a fun action game against all odds. I just wish they didn't waste so many resources on the multiplayer component.

So anyone else underwhelmed by Zelda Breath of Fresh Air?
Extremely disapointed.... looks like they just copied Elder Scrolls or something and threw in some monster hunter fetch quests.
Not to mention the graphics look so plain and ugly... it doesn't even look like a Zelda game.

Were you watching the horribly compressed YouTube stream? The game looks fine. Impressions online, including people who have played it, are highly positive, but go ahead and whine.Shelcoof wrote:So anyone else underwhelmed by Zelda Breath of Fresh Air?

lol I didn't know having an opinion about something meant that I was whining. Its funny how every time I have negative criticism about Nintendo you jump in here to their rescue. Calling me whiny isn't going to change how bad the game looks and plays.Bonus! wrote:Were you watching the horribly compressed YouTube stream? The game looks fine. Maybe you should go check out a load of the new games coming out on PS4.... my god some of those games visually alone blows this new Zelda crap out of the water... there's no comparison.
The Wii U and NX are dead if they think this game is has any chance to keep their consoles alive.
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
Dude, in my experience people complain about Nintendo because they can't afford their stuff. When I was in school, the poor kids somehow were of the opinion that the SNES sucked. I also had a rich dude with a cool dad in class who owned a Neo Geo, and I thought it rocked. Anyway, you have to realize that Nintendo serves a different market. Yes, they are family friendly. Yes, they focus on gameplay. Personally, I think they make a lot of fantastic games. If buying a second console puts too much of a burden on your finances, then it only means that you are not part of their target audience.
(I own a PS4 too, btw. Doom and Uncharted 4 are in the mail. Do you have kids? You don't need to answer, but you probably realize that it's maybe not the best idea to expose them to 18+ games. Even if you don't have kids, the Wii U makes for a fantastic 2nd console.)

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
I've been reading lots of Zelda hate, but I think it looks great so far. Looks like they are taking some chances for the first time since Wind Waker. I hope it does well. The series has been pretty stagnant for a decade, its time for a freshening up I think.
I admit I think the title is dumb, but the Zelda series has lots of stupid titles.

hmm... so let me get this straight... your basing your facts off of immature elementary school kids 20 years ago? With no job and possibly still wet their pants in bed? And you feel the need to give parental advice on a video game forum....Bonus! wrote:Dude, in my experience people complain about Nintendo because they can't afford their stuff. Alright then..... lol
I'm really hoping deep down it turns out to be good. But I dunno man there's just something about it that is missing that Zelda flavor. I really can't put my finger on it but I feel like there is no soul to this game. It really looks rushed to me.broken harbour wrote:I've been reading lots of Zelda hate, but I think it looks great so far. Looks like they are taking some chances for the first time since Wind Waker. You know back in the days Zelda had a very simple formula that was great. This new Zelda looks like they've made it much bigger and more complicated for the sake of just making it bigger and complicated.
Take Twilight Princess fore example it was pretty much just a bigger Ocarina of Time. But making it bigger didn't make it more enjoyable. I thought majority of the world was boring to travel through. You could have easily cut the world in half and still enjoy the game just as much.
I've been a Zelda fan since forever and I still own most of the Zelda games except for the crappy DS titles lol. So I really hope I am wrong about the game.
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
Shelcoof, maybe wait until the game is out. I was referring to my experiences in school because, quite frankly, you seem to be roughly at that level. Now you claim that the new Zelda has "no soul". I think you should go back to your "safe space" because you clearly can't contribute anything worthwhile here.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
I don't really like any of the Zelda games I've played, but I thought Breath of the Wild looked good. It seems like they're finally taking a step forward with the series. Exploration has always been a big thing in Zelda, but they've never done a good job with it imo. The only things you ever find are heart pieces and rupees, both of which are worthless. This game looks like it's going to have a bunch of different resources, armor, and equipment to find, so there's finally going to be some incentive to look for secrets. The combat also looks better. It's never going to be as complex or engaging as a great action game, but at least there are different weapons to use, and you can do stuff like this:

The E3 presentation made me want to play it, which I wasn't expecting.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
From what I saw on stream, there was a definite lack of danger since you can just stuff your face full of food the instant you get hit with anything .. and be at full health again. Previous titles required you to use rare, expensive, limited potions and fairies to accompish the same thing. I'm hoping this is either because the player is in the noob zone, or they intentionally made it easier for E3.

Everyone has to remember that Nintendo only showed the area you start out in, which should be noob-friendly.
Zelda isn't Dark Souls.

There was a boss that is able to one-hit kill Link. Plenty of danger, if you ask me.Udderdude wrote:From what I saw on stream, there was a definite lack of danger since you can just stuff your face full of food the instant you get hit with anything .. and be at full health again.

Nintendo is a fucking mess, first they say production won't stop, then they announce the opposite.

Well good, now drop the sodding price? There are a handful of titles I'd like to play. Right now they're about £250, not exactly good value for a dead system.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
They NEED to cut the price. There's no way I'm paying $299.99 for a Wii U, even though it does have some great games. I like the fact that it's backwards compatible with all Wii games, but if it stays at $299.99 until the end of it's lifespan, I'll just pick up a used Wii on eBay. I know it's not all about graphical horsepower, but for that price, I could get an Xbox One S, which has a 4K Blu-ray drive in it.soprano1 wrote:http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016- ... -this-week

Uh... my recollection of Link to the Past was fairies were plentiful, easily collected, and ensured my 80 hit points were actually 400 hit points at all times.Udderdude wrote:Previous titles required you to use rare, expensive, limited potions and fairies to accompish the same thing.
Nintendo doesn't make hard games these days.

Didn't they do the same thing not too long ago with some other report they denied, which turned out to be true just a few days later? They do need to get their act together on this front...soprano1 wrote:Nintendo is a fucking mess, first they say production won't stop, then they announce the opposite.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
... or it's simply that Nintendo wants to be the one "releasing" the information on a schedule under their control. So they on principle deny any early rumor/leak regardless to how close to the truth it is.BulletMagnet wrote:Didn't they do the same thing not too long ago with some other report they denied, which turned out to be true just a few days later? Given that the Switch won't surface until sometime in March it may be entirely up to the retailers who are trying to clear their stock/shelves - and of course in the US Nov. 25 (Black Friday) is a great opportunity for that.BulletMagnet wrote:...and this one too.Well good, now drop the sodding price?
Depends on what games you are looking for - Nintendo could very well be busy "remastering" a significant number of their own Wii U titles for the Switch in order to get past the "doesn't have any games" bar ASAP; given the sales numbers of the Wii U they may be hoping for the "new to you" effect for Switch adopters who bypassed the Wii U entirely.TransatlanticFoe wrote:There are a handful of titles I'd like to play.
