Neoliberalism ultimate consequence.
Re: Obama: A Real American President Guy
I'll be honest: I was gaslighted by the media just enough to not bet on the election directly. But the real betting starts tomorrow morning when the bell rings on Wall Street, anyways.

Has she given the concession speech?
Is she going to give a concession speech?
Is the reason she's not giving the concession speech because she didn't have one written up? Or is it because the weight of shame weighs on her too heavily?
Has the democratic party finally broken themselves and realized something is very, very fundamentally wrong with them?
Oh, no speech tonight. No reason to stay up now. Time to go back into my safe space.

Trump's president now, you think anyone has to abide to petty arbitrary traditions such as concession speeches anymore? At most she called Trump in private that she doesn't want to go to jail.

She should have at least given a speech to all her supporters. Pretty disrespectful to be honest.
Sort of proves Trumps point about her leaving the African community hanging once she gets their vote then comes back in 4 years.

Re: Obama: A Real American President Guy
I have two theories:EmperorIng wrote:Oh boy, crazy shit. How did Hillary drop the ball in the Midwest?
1. The reason I voted Nader in 2000. She never articulated a positive vision for the future under her administration, just essentially said, "It's my turn!" and leaned on attacking Trump for his deporable behavior. If she didn't have beltway tunnel vision she could have highlighted Bernie's DNC platform and won, especially with Elizabeth Warren as her running mate. Someone who would be spooked by two women in the white house would probably be spooked by one woman.
2. I don't know that there's anything she could have done. I look at all these states that voted for Trump at the same time voting for minimum wage increase ballot initiatives even though they run counter to his campaign platform and the only way that makes sense is if they didn't vote Trump based on policy, they just don't like Hillary. She's been on the receiving end of relentless media criticism and republican special prosecutor fishing expeditions ever since she said she chose to pursue her career over staying home and baking cookies for Bill and eventually all that criticism that starts to stick. I went to middle school in a conservative town and to this day I remember a class project where kids had to cut out pictures and make a collage of things they like and things they don't like, and more than half the kids had pictures of Hillary Clinton in their "don't like" collage.
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.
An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.
Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

On the BBC coverage here in the UK they said she had 2 speeches prepared, one for victory and one for defeat.BryanM wrote:Has she given the concession speech?

Oh the hilarity. The wonderful, wonderful hilarity.
I have to hand it to the US, they've gone and elected a fucking dunce into the presidency on the presumption he's going to upturn the establishment and buck the status quo.
They just haven't counted on how that's going to go down.
I'll be watching with a bucket of popcorn and a beaming grin.

Re: Obama: A Real American President Guy
Well. That's the news I wake up to.
Well, ok, everyone meet up again in two years for the midterms and get things done. If the GOP sells out and drops arguments of "checks and balances vs. authoritative president", well, they are done as a political party.
Maybe I should drive up there Mischief and buy you a drink, because you and I could probably use one.

I think this will be a bigger reason than most want to admit. I just feel that beyond emails, beyond wikileaks, something as simple (and "perhaps" coughcough as misleading) as having an "inspired" message is what turned people off of Hillary in Wisconsin and Michigan. Trump, in this sense, is the ultimate protest vote - moreso than any third party.Mischief Maker wrote:I have two theories:EmperorIng wrote:Oh boy, crazy shit. Re: Obama: A Real American President Guy
My 2 yen, then getting on with my life:
1) I said it before and still stand by it. I can't see how either of them would have been more than a 1-term president. He won, but let's face it, too many people made an anti-Hillary vote. Maybe we're all wrong and amazing things happen, but the only time a President has outdone their expectation in a good way is the end of Obama's second term. He was largely panned his first.
2) I'm not a registered democrat, but usually vote that way. It's a hard pill to swallow, but there's definitely a bit of "told ya so" here. Wasn't it Wisconsin where Bernie slaughtered Hillary in the primaries but she got more delegates b/c of the super delegates? Why would anyone be excited to go vote for her in that situation?

Re: Obama: A Real American President Guy
I voted for Nader the too, but I realized in hind sight how useless it is. We live in a two party system, period. Corporations control the media, and by association, they determine who gets their voice heard. Anyone who isn't in the two party system can't and won't. It's why Bernie had no chance at a nomination, and it's why anyone not red or blue won't either.Mischief Maker wrote:I have two theories:EmperorIng wrote:Oh boy, crazy shit. I can only pray that Trump really was just saying ridiculous shit for attention, and now he realizes he has to be a better man for everyone's sake.

Re: Obama: A Real American President Guy
I think the whole "he was trolling bigots to get their vote" theory has some plausibility. I mean... there is no fucking way Mexico is paying for a wall to go up. If you really think that's a reality, have a gander at Guantanamo Bay. Other more subtle things... not so sure. Roe vs. Wade... Obamacare... Global Warming countermeasures. Those I think are definitely up for grabs.cj iwakura wrote: I can only pray that Trump really was just saying ridiculous shit for attention, and now he realizes he has to be a better man for everyone's sake.

B..but I thought Hillary was an evil mastermind who controlled everything, bought the media, owned the electronic voting system, put Trump as republican candidate to ensure an easy win and signed a deal with her overlords to get a free ticket to the White House.
What happened ?

Re: Obama: A Real American President Guy
I find this also likely - that there's no way Trump can make it out of more than one term. In fact I will be impressed if he makes it out without an impeachment or indictment.GaijinPunch wrote:My 2 yen, then getting on with my life:

I also think this puts the GOP in an unwinnable situation in the long-term: years of anti-politics fear-mongering suddenly places them in power. If things go wrong, there's no one to point the finger at. If things go right, it turns out that no one ever cared about the modern GOP message to begin with. Winning the battle and losing the war? A positive is giving so little of a shit about a party that despises him that Trump will "make deals" with whomever.
As Ed says, it's time for some, uh, grand experimentation.
