I'm about to pull the trigger on a Vizio d40u-d1, but retrorgb was saying he was getting 2.5 frames of lag from the OSSC in line triple mode. Latency is probably the biggest determining factor in what display I'm going to buy. Has anyone tried running like triple into a DVDO scaler and outputting 1080p into this set? Are we seeing the same type of latency? I'm hoping maybe the 2.5 frames will reduce when trying to scale 1080p vs 720p.

The RTINGS review mentions that you get 2.5 frames of lag on all inputs (even with low latency game mode enabled), except for HDMI input 5, which gives a sub-1-frame delay. Since the lag on this model is identical for 1080p and 4K I have a hard time believing that it would be any higher for a 720p source.

That low input lag is probably only with 4:2:2 and lower. That could be the reason why retrorgb got 2.5 frames with the OSSC. Also the TV doesn't even support 1080p 4:4:4 and RTINGS had said that all current Vizio TVs do not display 4:4:4 properly.

I have one of the D50u-d1 2016 Vizio panels. The panel has one great HDMI input, everything else is garbage for gaming.
The Vizio does not support 4:4:4 color. You will probably want to pair the display with an HDMI switcher and some other video processing equipment.

So if all I'm running is 240p content all through rgb SCART switch to an OSSC/DVDO combo to one HDMI-out this panel would be suitable? Like I mentioned earlier, latency and input lag is my biggest constraint (besides budget) for my display. Are there any other current panels on the market that could produce the same results as that high speed HDMI input that's around the same price range?

You should have no issues when using a DVDO processor. Fudoh recommended the HD, HD+, vp20, vp30, vp50, or vp50pro.
I do not know of any large panels that can rival the Vizio D series on latency right now--at any price. The motion strobing at 60Hz is also pretty good. Just as good as using "Lightframe" on my BenQ.
If you want a faster display, you will need to wait until more new displays come out. New gaming monitors do not perform motion strobing (lightframe) on 60Hz sources. You don't want your games to smear like a huge Game Boy. So, the lower lag on new gaming monitors comes at a steep cost for old games. There is no large display with 4:4:4 support, motion strobing at 60Hz, and sub-1 frame lag right now.

I don't have an OSSC yet either, getting closer though! I do have a VP20 and a VP30 so I'll probably just run everything through the VP30 for now. Thanks for the info and advice, at 13/14 ms, that's probably the best I'll get in that price range.orange808 wrote:

If you're running through a DVDO you don't have to worry about missing 4:4:4 support on the Vizio either, since the DVDO's internal processing is 4:2:2 all the way anyway.

If you take as an example 480p 4:4:4 to 1080p upscaling (typically an OSSC feeding a DVDO or a XRGB-mini).
When you say "x, y, z processor is a 4:2:2 internal processing", does it mean that the 480p 4:4:4 is directly upscaled to 1080p 4:2:2, so chrominance is less upscaled than luminance, but the original information is kept in the process, or does this means that 480p 4:4:4 is firstly downsampled to 480p 4:2:2 and than upscaled to 1080p 4:2:2 ?

The conversion to 4:2:2 generally happens at the ADC stage. So your video would be digitized as 4:2:2 480p video and then upscaled to 1080p video.

And in the case of a digital input, do you know how it works ?
For example Marq's goal with the OSSC was to do a full RGB 4:4:4 processing pipeline, so I suppose it doesn't downsample at its input, otherwise that would be pointless.

Since 4:2:2 always means YCbCr as well, your luma remains at the input resolution, but the resolution of both color channels is cut into half.
One exception to all that is the Framemeister with 240p input. The initial 240p is doubled by an FPGA first. That's (likely) done in 4:4:4. Only afterwards the color resolution is reduced to 4:2:2.
