I thought that's what the New Game+ was for.
Or you can do just that, play on lower difficulties for your first playthrough and on higher ones for your second. Much like how these ARPGs tend to be played, actually. In Diablo/PoE you are locked to Normal difficulty on your first playthrough as the difficulty gets higher each time you finish the game, keeping up the loot treadmill. Although that speaks volumes over the questionable balancing of SW2 where you can start at any difficulty (even though NPNG is becoming more bearable once I stacked some flat phys damage on one weapon and crit chances on another, I actually had a bit of fun when numbers weren't that much of a deciding factor in combat).
I guess I'm just a sadomasochist for refusing to turn down the difficulty. I wouldn't recommend the initial frustration and bullshit of NPNG to anyone, however.

On a long train journey so brought GBA Doom with me, it's been a while. Fake nightmare mode. Currently stuck on the stage from the first chapter that was cut from the SNES version - first Doom experience was the SNES version so I can rememeber all the stages it had. Bugger.
Urgh why didn't the GBA SP have a headphone jack? Doom is so much harder without sound.

So Nintendo make extra money selling an adapter on the side?
Stardew Valley, because too much homework has stressed me the fuck out (fucking 20-30 PAGES of reading + questions per night for English class (which I've maintained an A in so far this year, by the way), and FOUR TEXTBOOK CHAPTER SECTIONS, WITH LIKE 10 QUESTIONS EACH, for Biology. History and Math are the same amount as before, though).

Thanks for the UPDATE. If you don't like a game, don't play it
As for me, Got all the Shovel Knight achievements with Plague Knight, ye boii.
Completing the game in under 90 minutes was pretty tough, also NG+ is a real bitch using plague.
I'm also kinda addicted to the Surf minigame in CS:GO. I would like to finish a single track some day!
Been playing a lot of They Bleed Pixels recently. The game is so good, and the difficulty level is great.
Currently up to Dream 3 Chapter 2 in the story, but haven't really tried it yet. Have done some of the no death, speedrun, and S rank achievements for some of the previous levels.
Also messing around with some of the bonus levels. Have all the achievements for the Stardust one and have been playing a lot of Exp. 0.666. Have cleared Exp. 0.666 three times so far (first was A rank plus all pages, second was S rank + the all enemies killed, 3rd was the speedrun achievement with 8 deaths). Really like this level, so I'll try to get the Deathless achievement for it before continuing with other levels(despite Deathless Exp. 0.666 supposed to be the hardest achievement in the game)
Just finished Furi, and I think it might be one of my favourite games this year
I really like how all the bosses have been fleshed out in their own right, both as a character and as a boss fight. You have a limited moveset, but all the bosses manage to do something unique by bringing a new gimmick to the table prompting you to change the way you fight. Although the (true) final boss was kind of a let down, I'm not that fond of that change of genres Western developers tend to do with the final boss fights, the out-of-nowhere Space Harrier section from the Shadow of the Beast reboot final boss comes to mind. It would have been a perfect moment for a mirror match (I don't really consider The Edge a mirror fight because you don't get to use your guns) with the most phases over any boss in the game, briefly referencing each boss with each respective phase.
While I like the walking sections from a stylistic standpoint, I'm not looking forward to having to hold down the dodge button while experiencing the same stuff I already experienced before Furier difficulty.
Visually the game is pretty sound as the camera is rarely ever an issue and colors are used to a degree where you can always have a clear overview of the situation, save for the crosshair sometimes being submerged beneath the bullets.
But yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to more of this. Unfortunately a new boss for the game is exclusive for the Xbox One only, which is just a dick move.

I've been running Akina Downhill in the PS1 racer Side By Side Special 2000 for a good while, but only recently started doing it with the AE86 as suggested by DJH. So unbelievably fun and addicting.
It's a shame the game, or the arcade original, doesn't separate the rankings by car class. I'd love to find out the AE86 WR for the course. Still, I can and will keep challenging the fastest time proper.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.
It was way too easy, but hey it's a kids game. Overall I thought the controls were very good, and turning the enemies into bubbles kinda reminded me of bubble bobble. Short and sweet, I told my wife she would really enjoy it since the music is great and it's not frustrating. Typical Capcom licensed Disney goodness, great game for some quick fun if you can get past the fact that it is a game designed for little girls...LOL.
NES - Low G Man
I played this as a kid, but never got too into it.....man is this game cool! I like how you can hijack enemy vehicles. The controls feel a little clunky, but freezing things and then spearing them with the down or upward thrust is really satisfying! My copy still has the hollywood video sticker on it from when my apartment neighbor gave it to me when I was a little kid. He was the manager and used to give me all sorts of stuff when they liquidated multiples of things. Gives me lots of nostalgia seeing a sticker that would otherwise bug the hell out of me as a collector.....I guess backstory is everything.
NES - Holy Diver
This game is kicking my ass, but it's a lot of fun! I'm stuck towards the end of level 4, I was able to rely on quick reflexes up to this point...but now it seems I need to start replaying it till it's in memory to get further. Or maybe I just suck....LOL. Either way this game is awesome, and I don't regret picking up the repro cart.
Sega Saturn - Street Fighter Zero 3
This port kicks the crap out of emulating it on MAME, man it's just so good! I'm addicted to the alpha series lately, and while I've heard that most people prefer #2 I've been playing #3 since it has more characters and tweakable options. This game is so good it has me thinking of rewiring my MAME cabinet control panel in a way that would connect to the Saturn. Right now it's wired directly to an i-pac4, I'm debating wiring all the controls to a JAMMA harness, and then DIYing my own individual connectors for different systems and my PC. Might be worth it.....eventually I will own either this cabinet or a SF2-champion/turbo, but this Saturn port is dang close to the real thing!
PS4 - Street Fighter 5
I like it better than SF4 but that isn't saying very much. I have a madcatz SF4 round 2 tournament stick (boy that's a mouthful) and while it works, the method of chaining it to a PS4 controller in the "legacy" option is incredibly cumbersome and buggy. A couple of times I got an error and it disconnected mid-match. I had to fumble around and find the PS4 controller while getting hit, finish the match.....then go all the way back to the title screen to fix it. Why are there no controller options in the pause menu or in the lobby? WTF Capcom? I guess I'm lucky I can use my old fightstick at all. Also while I'm complaining, requiring PSN users to enter a SF5 specific username that we have to remember is dumb, and having to pre select a character before you search for games is equally as dumb. Don't they realize that most of us change characters when we play with people? Say I'm using my main, and I notice my opponent is being a turtle.....next round I want to switch characters to take advantage of that. Also balancing is never perfect in any fighting game, certain matchups are just flat out stacked against you. Having the option to change characters when you rematch would be great.

Wow, amazing run Ghegs!
I'm playing the Akina course on Battle Gear 2 right now, but I can handle the trueno very well, I think I should try another C-class car.

Yeah agreed, wonderful game.
It's almost blasphemous for a person with my tastes to say this, but I think I love the story the most. Wonderfully presented, great atmosphere and style, and gives and withholds just the right amount of information. Absolutely channels elegaic Treasure heroics.
My biggest complaint about the game is that I wish fights were more "organic", that is I wish bosses weren't designed so that "okay, now you must parry 3 attacks in a row before they'll take a hit". If it was more freeform and had more emphasis on spacing, like Dark Souls or something, I think it would have been even better. But as is it's still a wonderfully unique and fun game. I love it.

Towards the end I sure got left with the feels. It feels more like a personal journey you're making, with each boss representing a different aspect to your fight for freedom.
Perhaps the game could've utilized multiple 'flashes' with their own sound effect and timing required to parry them, rather than one flash with the same timing for the entire game

Liar. I've known you only from latexmachomen.com and pantysniffers.org forums.
Been driving myself up the wall trying to get the Dark Boy achievement in the original Binding of Isaac. I've got everything else, even the new Eternal achievements... but the depths in this game are just unfair to no-damage. Even with an OP run there's plenty of rooms rooms with unavoidable damage.
Got Guppy? Here's an exploding fly right next to the door that explodes before you have control. Have great damage and fire rate and can fly? Swarm of flies that move erratically and can't be killed fast enough to avoid damage. Oh, and here's four Masks of Infamy. Fuck you Dark Boy.
I've been considering Judas, but figured Isaac gives me the D6 along with extra hearts for deals with the devil... might be worth changing tactics.
I've also tried throwing myself at the Large Marge challenge as the depths will always be a single XL floor - that plus an Emperor card (and a Bible? And a decent build?) could be all I need. But again, fewer deals and the loss of the D6 make that slow going.
The one good thing about forcing myself to play oldschool Isaac is now I can jump to Rebirth without needing to plug in my Xbox controller, which is so much more convenient. I've been taking breaks in my depth grind to play Rebirth which takes a lot of the stress away - until I realize that we're still waiting for a release date for Afterbirth+. Then my blood pressure rises again.
Immryr wrote:I really couldn't get into furi. The Simon says nature of the fights ruined it for me.
I feel this becomes a non-issue when you're at the "neutral" game, and both you and the boss are running around and exchanging bullets and slashes. It feels much more organic because spacing, timing, and aiming matter a lot more. Getting in close during these parts of fights to deliver slashes feels much more like genuine risk/reward. I think the "simon says" sword fighting excursions are best thought of as brief mini-games diverting from the main meal. From that perspective, I think it plays quite well, albeit imperfectly at times.

I just wish that the melee combat itself were just a little bit less scripted and more dynamic with less "the boss is not damagable except with x method now" and more "use what methods you see fit to get in on the boss, with various risk/reward balances for each". But as stated above, it's a minor issue at worst imo.

Sumez wrote:Why would anyone ever play non-Rebirth Isaac?
I got 1001% and wanted more.
The original is fun - it's immediately familiar to someone who's played Rebirth, but actually very different. Synergies are much less crazy and the game doesn't really break in the same way as a result. It's fun to compare things that are different - I imagine this is what original Isaac players felt with Rebirth hit, except I'm not thrown off by a bunch of new items I don't understand. Baranowski's music and the graphics help make the game feel like its own thing rather than a lesser Rebirth.
The Eternal update (which came out after Rebirth) added a hard mode which I think did a lot of neat things like boss trap rooms with super hard enemies and a guaranteed Angel Room item.
Also got a new PS2 that works so been playing some Shinobi PS2 and some Gradius V.
I liked Furi a lot at first but very rarely replayed it after doing everything the first time. Was waiting for patches to the PC version with performance improvements though.
Finished pretty much everything in Dragon Quest VII. Since it's still a month until Pokemon Sun comes out, i'll be playing Skyrim (not the recent version) on PC. I only played a bit of Morrowind many years ago, so i'm out of touch with first/third person melee combat sandbox RPG's.

Same, though that's how I treat almost all games, with arcade-style stuff being no exception. Usually after I "get my fill" (usually a 1cc or a decent enough score) I'll take a break and come back month's or even years later.
Partly because there's too much to play. Partly because of ADD and variety being the spice of life. And partly because when I really like a game (ie enough to complete it in the first place) I like to savor it and keep it feeling "magical" which means not grinding it to the point of sucking the life out.
I'll probably return to Furi down the line. Honestly I'll probably skip speed run mode though. The cinemas and atmosphere is half the magic.

Can anyone give me tips on this one? I know it's supposed to be one -if not the- easiest Capcom brawler clears due to item cheese, but fuck, I find the early game bosses simply impenetrable. The Man Scorpion alone took me 10 hours before I could beat him twice in a row, and I've yet to take him without losing 90% of my health and all my items. The boss himself would be tricky enough due to his high movement speed and ramming attacks, but the duo of Troglodytes/Undead constantly chasing you throughout just give me a helluva time trying to find an opening.
I'm playing Fighter, sometimes Cleric (I know his healing is great, but I have a hard time dealing with his shorter attack range and slower speed). Am I missing something*, or is the early game really that nasty?
*Oh yeah, I do notice the combos seem really inconsistent. I got the hang of not doing the double tap "special" consistently during the basic combo, but even so, sometimes hits knock enemies out of reach and I'm not sure why. Very big problem against Man Scorpion, since it denies a lot of damage.
