OSSC (DIY video digitizer & scandoubler)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here: Wouldn't additional inputs require a different FPGA which probably costs more money because it has more inputs?

The TVP7002 only supports component or RGB video capture. If you want to capture composite or S-Video, you'd need something like a TI TVP5150AM1, which can decode NTSC/PAL/SECAM video. That of course would require a board redesign and added FPGA programming to program the chip's registers and switch to the new chip's digital output. Unfortunately there aren't any "cheap" external solutions to convert these connections to component and all of them appear to involve an added analog-to-digital-to-analog conversion stage.

I'm not even fussed about look of the OSSC, its just that when you spend time and money getting a rack and putting all your consoles in pigeons holes and then you suddenly need to find a place for the OSSC. It just doesn't go anywhere neatly. In my setup it would need to go in front of the TV where its accessible and since my TV is the living room TV it would mean putting it away and getting it out every single time. This means getting the consoles out of their pigeon holes, plugging in cables, plugging the OSSC in to an already clustered power point, running cables across the carpet and running a HDMI to the back of the TV. It would work, but it wouldn't look very nice at all. And like I say I would have to take it all apart again when done.

My concern is exclusive to my situation and I understand that some of you just want the magic box of tricks. I apologise if I've somehow worked some of you up the wrong way. Its just that the OSSC for most of you is a product that far exceeds expectations, where as for me its a make do solution. I'd even pay extra for a bling version if it were an option. If you remember the SLG3000 or whatever it was called came as a bare bones solution but then someone came out straight after with a casing for it. Hopefully thats the case here. If it NEVER comes, then so be it. I can still play my games today by just switching on the TV and the console, it just doesn't look as good as it would if it were coming through an OSSC.

Well nobody's forcing you to buy one. If it doesn't fit your setup then go with something else that does like a Framemeister or something.

I don't understand your setup, but it sounds to me you're doing things in a way too complicated way that maybe can be helped if you just describe what your actual current problems are with the OSSC, how it conflicts with your setup and what your setup actually is.

If you can play now by just switching on the tv and console then you must be using a scart switch. I don't see the reason why you have to take everything apart with the OSSC since you can just connect the scart cable from the switch to the OSSC instead of the tv.

I have a pioneer receiver. I just change the input and the output comes out on the TV. Like I said its a living room environment. I'm a grown man with a family and all the bedrooms are taken so I only have the living room. I plan to upgrade my home in 2 years and I will make sure I have a dedicated retro room for older consoles. Until then....

Do monitors that old even have a dvi port? The other issue is that the scaling on monitors that old is usually really poor, so the 720p output would be completly mangled, wouldn't this make it all a bit pointless?

I imagine it would only look good if the monitor had a 1:1 mode that windowboxed a 960x720 image in the middle.

Works for me with my Eizo 21", with hdfury nano gx pal, ntsc 240/480i/480p

Can you check in which resolution are being displaying the games, and if the monitor is reescaling the image? Native resolution in your monitor is 1600x1200, 1280x1024, 1024x768?

If you can post some ingame high resolution pics it would be amazing!

Yes if it does not automatically switch to that mode. You might need to set tx_mode to hdmi to enable autodetection with some displays.

Manufacturing and testing of the upcoming batch has just been finished - freight and processing will take some days but the boards could start shipping to people at the end of the month.

During the last couple days I've updated sd card driver with a more compatible one. It has worked fine with my cards but still needs more testing. I've also planned to include profile support at the same upcoming fw release. The target is to allow up to 10 full profiles, load&save from/to internal flash or SD card, plus direct load with remote control keys.
