It's only $100 per inch. Not bad.

Shit like this doesn't need to be in the hardware section.

Someone here in Japan with a PVM 20L5 listed at 2500$. I sent him a PM and said no one is going to buy it for that and offered him 300$, which is still probably too much.

$300 seems a little bit of a lowball for the 20L5 at this point, considering that the group of 14L5 that went up for $250 sold reasonably well. I would have paid $250 for the 14L5 if the shipping to Canada wasn't so much.

Dude won't even respond to all of the out-of-town offers that are pouring in to get this coveted unit for such a reasonable price.

Good to know...I'm watching an auction for a 14L5 right now that is sitting around 200$.

What are the going rates now for the 20L5 then? Or the BVM A20? The ones I see online now both on ebay and in Japan are close to 2000$.

200-400 I'd venture ... bvm - bit of wider variation on the top end, probably 400+ just because they're newer+rarer.

I wouldn't take the Japanese example as anything - I'd be willing to be that in a space precious Japan (plus presume less common to take home old work equipment) it's probably a bit more of a harder to find example, especially if it is really in excellent condition. Personally I'd not spend $2000 on a 2950 (which I'd consider to be super rare now - as opposed to 14inch pvms which might be rare at a low price but you still see all over ebay)... lets face it all this stuff is 15+ years old and at the higher end prices/sizes I'd rather pick up still cheaper and larger arcade monitor that I could probably have an easier time/better chance to repair in the future.

But again, this might depend on what kind of dragon you're chasing - if your after the best small screen experience you can get, you never know, a genuinely excellent, low use, 14 inch pvm might be up your street...

...And yeah, you never know - you might still find some school/hospital dumping old equipment for pennies/recycling/charity, although those days must be coming to an end.

That's where I've been at with it for a while.

I just got a 14L5 in great shape for around $220 shipped thanks to Best Offer. It seems high, but these things have certainly gotten pricier in the last four years or so, so maybe it's not so ridiculous any more.

I'm about to bid on a 14L5 for exactly the same price. From my short time down this rabbit hole that seems standard.

Welp. The 14L5 I had my eye on has shot up in the last 5 minutes of the auction. It went from 200$ to 900$ and the seller keeps increasing the time. Am I crazy or is 900$ way too much for this set? Feeling disappointed but no way I'm going to pay that much.

$900 is absurd for a 14L5. With a little hunting I'm sure you can do better.

The 14" monitors shit all over the 20" ones in every way except for size. The 14" ones are great for a desk-bound use-case, and the portability is nice too.

yeah, when it broke 300$ I started to think, okay, even though the unit is in good shape this is no longer a good deal.

When it rocketed up to 900$, I couldn't help but laugh. The seller in this case definitely did well for themselves.

I'm considering just getting a 480P equipped Wega, which I can get shipped to me for under 100$. It might be enough to tide me over while I spend my money on things like actually getting retro consoles and RGB cables set up. While P/BVMs are certainly better I can always wait until I find a good deal in person. There is an 20" L5 for sale in Fukuoka, Japan, which is driveable for me, but the person wants 2500$ for it. If I was making more money I might just say screw it and pick it up, but definitely not an option for me at this time.

With $2500 I can think of a hundred things I'd buy before a 20" pvm..... I'd buy a ton of consoles RGB mod them, get flash carts for everything, buy a low lag flat screen and a framemeister, and a 32" Sony crt. One for upstairs one for downstairs. Heck I'll take two of each console. Then some 8bitdo wireless controllers. Might still have a few hundred left over. Point is, I wouldn't consider a $2500 20" pvm.

Exactly dude. I ended up winning an auction last night on a Wega kv-29dx550. 29", has D4 terminal inputs (up to 720p/1080i over component), as well as the Sony AV Multi port which I can use for direct RGB input with a RGB21 adapter. If I get a Selecty21 I'll run a SNES, PS2, and maybe a Mega Drive through that, with a Gamecube compatible Wii through the D4 input. I picked up an official Nintendo brand D terminal cable for Wii/U for around 20$.
Like you said, I could get clash carts for SNES and Genesis, wire everything up for RGB, and still come out ahead.

I would love to get a 14 or 20" PVM in the future and have both running, but in the mean time I think my money is better spent elsewhere.

That's awesome bud! please post some pics of consoles running in RGB on it as soon as you get it :D

EDIT : looks like that Sony Multi-input accepts both RGBs and YpBpR so that's awesome for the PS2

Will do!
About that port, I was thinking of getting an adapter to go from the AV Multi into a Female JP21 adapter, then running a Selecty21 into that.
That would cut me off from using 480p on the handful of PS2 games that support it (the ones I would play anyway), but then again, a Playstation Component cable is dirt cheap here in Japan so that's always an option should I want to play those games.

I always get a bit envious when people mention that they can find PVM/BVM's in person...
