C'mon people, you should know better than to share MP3s here.

This includes commercialy available OSTs, for example.Forum Rules wrote:No ISO trading, ROM begging, bootlegging, modchip sales, copyright infringement, or assistance with any of these – for example warez FTP site details. It doesn't matter what is legal in your country, there are no exceptions to this rule – although discussion of emulation is not a problem.

Yes because we are all very honest people here who would never do anything the least bit illegal. Of course, encouraging people to play emulated games for score competitions is a-ok because we're not the ones supplying people with the roms
But, whatever, NTSC-J got his song, so I'm sure we're both happy.

Posting an Ibara ISO is one thing, but mp3s, who gives a shit. People post footage using copyrighted material and links to sites with illegal stuff, I think shmups.com will come thru. Technically we shouldn't even be playing these games. But this isn't my site, so when Old Man Ghegs says no, it means no.MrMonkeyMan wrote:Yes because we are all very honest people here who would never do anything the least bit illegal. It's cool tho, thanks again MMM.
Man, you two need to quit bitching. Didn't you see what happened to click? All he did was post Arcadia scans and they sent him a cease and desist. It'd be pretty pathetic if the most important resource for shooters anywhere (in english, anyways) was shut down cause you two couldn't be bothered to pay for the mushi OST. Ghegs is not the bad guy here.NTSC-J wrote:Posting an Ibara ISO is one thing, but mp3s, who gives a shit. Have you bought Mushi for PS2? Shame, you could have ripped and posted that for us if the mods weren't such a bunch of tight-assed goddamn fascists.MrMonkeyMan wrote:I thought I was done bitching?
By the way, the mp3 I posted I ripped from the CD myself, so, you know, shut up, Neon
Good job sticking it to the man, though.
edit - eh, not trying to fan the flames, just having fun pointing out the logical fallacies. I'll stop now.

Cave doesn't lose any money from arcade roms. Arguably, they've gained customers from them. Mushi's a brand new game, though. In an age where shmups are barely ported at all it strikes me as extremely ungrateful as well as illogical to steal them. Biting the hand that feeds you, really.MrMonkeyMan wrote:If you asked for it, I wouldn't have any problem sharing it with you.
It's no worse than downloading arcade roms

I actually have the CD that came with the Superplay DVD, which although it costs even more, it's a far better deal then the soundtrack plus that figurine.
Landshark, I wasn't so much arguing because the link was removed, I know why it was removed. I was pretty much just using it as an excuse to attack the ethics of everyone here at shmups. Stealing is ok as long as Neon says it is.

for future cases like this: there is a tool able to extract game music from most games who come on CD or DVD (i.e. can be read in a regular PC drive). I don´t remember the details, just put your game of choice in your PC, look at the folders searching for something that looks like it contains sound/music files, and look for a recurring file type in there. Doesn´t work with all games, if you don´t find it on one game, try another. The interesting part is that most games use one single format, which can´t be read by a PC regularly, but there is a tool availlable which can convert data from that format to a regular one like .wav or .mp3 - that way, you are not hurting copyright, because you are producing a copy of something you own for your own usage.
Of course, these files don´t match up to the quality of a CD soundtrack, so there´s still motivation left to buy the official soundtrack.

Wouldn't he have requested the entire OST if that's what he wanted? Free samples were made available by Cave themselves IIRC (or just play the game)Oh, but what if NTSC-J enjoyed that mp3 I posted sooo much he went out and purcahsed the OST right away?
Getting a rom (unless you have access to an arcade w/the game) versus getting something available new, that'll profit the company? 2 ballparks entirely.

I doubt Cave is losing any more money from a single mp3 from one of their soundtracks being shared (it is only one track, you know) than someone downloading an old arcade game they can't take a profit from the purchase of anyway. If he only wants one track, he wouldn't buy the CD anyway. Cave won't profit regardless.Neon wrote: Wouldn't he have requested the entire OST if that's what he wanted? Feedback will set you free.

I think if J had some software that would rip the audio from the game and then mentioned in passing and without any fanfare that he had the fourth stage music bumping on his ghetto blaster on the bus, most folks would have either not even thought about it or said something like "Respeck. Big up yourself." He paid a pretty penny for that game and he does own the right to play back the song after all. But somehow, somebody else doing the work that is merely allowing him to play the song he already owns on a machine other than his PS2, ruffles feathers. I can certainly see why Ghegs would want to erase the link, I just don't see how come it became a moral issue for anyone.
