turbografx wont load game
I have a turbografx that turns on and the screen flashes but the game never loads. sometimes it shows a tan screen, sometimes blue.
i already cleaned the cart slot and i tried bypassing the rf box with a composite jack and still get the same thing. I also checked voltage on voltage regulator and its right at 5.00 volts. I really dont know what else to do with it.

The solid screen color sounds like what's happening when the system can't read the game card. Do you have multiple cards to try with?

Are you trying to play PC Engine games on a TurboGrafx? Because that won't work, the pinouts are different.

I had the same issue (can't remember what colour the screen was though) before with one game. As my other games worked, I assumed it was probably a faulty hucard. As it was cheap, I bought another copy and that worked fine. I guess some hucards just fail for whatever reason.

Stupid suggestion, I know, but one thing I often do when a HuCard won't start, and I already tried cleaning it with isopropyl, is pull out the card as far as I can while the system is still turned on (as the plastic tip on the power button blocks it), then turn the system off and back on. It tends to help when the cards isn't inserted further than it has to, I guess that's probably because the connector inside my PCE is dirty, though.

Its not that stuff. Im not putting the card in upside down, Im not using a pc engine game. im using the us version of R-type as a test, and it works fine in another turbografx I have.
I bought this console as an extra because i only had 1 turbografx ever.
Ive been into games for 20 years and i never owned a turbografx before. its too bad too because i love the system I had always overlooked it.

If you love the TurboGrafX, you'll want to have sex with the PC Engine. Best piece of console hardware ever made, with an amazing selection of games.

Hrmm...first thing I thought was "it's a region issue". But obviously not.

Unlike its loose overseas counterpart the PC Engine is a classy gal. The kind you bring home to mom. You are going to have to put a ring on that finger before you get access to the good stuff.Sumez wrote:If you love the TurboGrafX, you'll want to have sex with the PC Engine. In all seriousness though, sounds like maybe your other TG16 is faulty. Maybe the pins in the Hucard slot are bent and worn, or it needs new capacitors. Frankly there are millions of things that could cause it not to play games.

would bad capacitors cause it to not boot? Ive only seen them cause video and sound issues.

Are there certain caps i should replace just to test that idea? most of the caps are probably not related to it not booting.
If it work then ill replace them all. Otherwise i might sell this console.

I suggest selling it. Caps are a bit of a long shot. The TG16 is not known to have capacitor problems, and if it is not something simple like caps then the origin might be mighty complex indeed.
I had a PC Engine that had trouble booting games, and when it did it would freeze randomly during gameplay. I did everything in my power to fix it, but ended up making things worse in the end.

Re: turbografx wont load game
I recall buying my TG-16 brand new for a mere $30 from my local Toys-R-Us back in December of 1993 (this was back when such TG-16 hardware & software was being discounted for mere pennies on the dollar -- even the mighty & stalwart TTI Turbo Duo console would be sold for a mere $99.99 during the 1994 year timeline if you knew where to get it at that particular pricepoint). It still works like a charm even to this day. Your best bet would be to pick up a plain stock "unmodified" PC Engine/Core Grafx/Core Grafx II console & use a Turbo Ever Drive flash cart (version 1.2 works without any problems whatsoever) -- this is the best bang for the buck if you want to ability to play the uber-rare TTI version of Magical Chase (compared to the original JPN PCE version of the same name) or any of the Caravan titles like Gunhed, Soldier Blade, etc.
