Will the XRGB-3 work for my purposes?
My current setup is: RGB Consoles (PCE Duo/Famicom AV/SFC/Genesis 1 w/32X / Saturn / Dreamcast / PS3 / 360) mostly over SCART (Euro), and Component. SCART runs through a Shinybow 6:2 selector, 1 output breaks out to BNC connectors into a Sony BVM, the audio goes into an amp. I'd *like* to send the other output to an upscaler and into a capture card. I have an Elgato HDMI capture card, but am willing to swap to something else if it's not sufficient. Would the XRGB-3 be more or less a catch-all upscaler for my needs? Or are there better/easier options? I'm not worried about delay because I'll be recording, not playing off of the feed through the XRGB.

OSSC would be better, check fudoh's review.

I'll do that. Taking a quick look around, since it's out of stock, I am not seeing a price-point anywhere. What does it cost?juji82 wrote:OSSC would be better, check fudoh's review.

Something like $250 I think?
PS1 Disc-Based Game ID BIOS patch for MemCard Pro and SD2PSX automatic VMC switching.

The price difference ~$100 in my case, makes that a little harder to swallow.bobrocks95 wrote:Something like $250 I think?
While I've read fudoh's reviews on both devices, I'm still not quite sure I understand well enough to make an informed decision.

The main difference between the two is that the OSSC just works. You plug in your sources and get great results. The XRGB-3 requires a good understanding of video processing. You easily get sync issues and picture instabilities. If you don't mind the waiting time, get an OSSC instead. This is mostly for PLAYING though.
The best video processor for capturing is hands down the Framemeister, since you get easy 1080p output and it got much more options than the OSSC does.

I agree that the XRGB-3 is a bit temperamental and requires quite a bit of tweaking (especially since it doesn't have profiles. When going from one console to another, chances are you'll need to adjust a few things. nothing long, but you'll be doing this a lot).

That alone is reason enough for me to look for something else. Not having profiles for everything could be a hassle.FinalBaton wrote:I agree that the XRGB-3 is a bit temperamental and requires quite a bit of tweaking (especially since it doesn't have profiles. I finally found a price, 150GBP/200ish USD. That makes it 2/3 the price of the Framemeister. I don't need 1080p, 480p is plenty, quite honestly. Between your review, the price difference, and the breakdown on videogameperfection's site titled "OPEN SOURCE SCAN CONVERTER – THE VERDICT", I think I'm going to hold out for one of these. The Elgato seems to take 480P, so it should be just running a DVI->HDMI cable into the Elgato and calling it a day.Fudoh wrote:The main difference between the two is that the OSSC just works. Thank you guys for the help

Re: Will the XRGB-3 work for my purposes?
A member sold my an XRGB-3 and what a pain in the as* that thing is to sync video.. The member helped me and answered all my questions.. At the end, It was to much of a pain and I said that I was going to put it back for sell.. The member offered to take the unit back and I received a full refund (Thank you, you know who you are).. The mini, it is plug and play and I never had issues with video.. yes, there is lag but it is user friendly. I wold pick the mini over the XRGB-3 this is from a newbie point of view.

Much appreciated. I did a lot more research in addition to everyone's input here, and I passed on the XRGB-3, purchased a Mini over the OSSC (because I'm impatient) and a used Avermedia u3.SNK-NEO-GEO wrote:A member sold my an XRGB-3 and what a pain in the as* that thing is to sync video.. Setup should look liked:
SCART consoles -> Shinybow 6:2 SCART Switch -> Output to BVM and Mini -> Avermedia extremecap u3.
PS3/Wii/X360 -> Shinybow 6:2 Component Switch -> Output to BVM and Avermedia extremecap u3.
Should be real easy to run. Just need to figure out how on Earth to manage all the messy cabling, haha.
