Sony PVM 2130QM + additional questions

Hi guys, I'm following this forum for a long time and this is my first time posting here.

I have the following problem, will upload pictures later today if necessary:
I've purchased 2130QM to connect my retro consoles to it, for now I'm connecting them in the following way:

PVM -> Scart to composite cable -> composite switcher -> composite cable -> consoles.

I'm planning to upgrade to RGB scart soon, will make cables using this tutorial (sega mega drive 2 scart cable was a success).

I've noticed the following problem, when I'm using my modded PAL SNES (mmonkey tutorial on 50/60Hz Switch), the colors are ok. But when i switch to the NTSC to play SFC games, I get shades / stripes of purple and green on the image.

Same happens on modded PS2 (infinity chip).

When I connect the consoles to regular consumer TV, I haven't noticed the issue.


Has anyone experienced this issue on their PVM?
Does anyone has the correct pot settings for this PVM? (Haven't touched anything since I've bought it)

Instead of buying rgb scart cables, is there a way to find or recycle propriety SNES, PS2 and Xbox connectors? Maybe there are cheap chinese cables where you can open the connector plastic and reuse it.

Your SNES uses a PAL encoder chip, so you probably get PAL60, which the Sony might not like. This is rather common on TVs from the late 80s or even early 90s, so I could imagine that your PVM Doesn't like it either.

Getting RGB cables will solve this.

I thought it goes on "true" NTSC cause PVM shows NTSC 4.43 when I switch to NTSC mode.

So, do I need to get / make 2 different RGB cables (PAL/NTSC) or only PAL is enough?

yeah, but PAL60 (NTSC 4.43) is very non-standard and this is clearly an íssue with the color carrier signal.

You need *one* RGB cable per system. The cables will work no matter what your systems are set to.

this refers to the hardware configuration of your system. If you have a PAL system, modded or not, you need a PAL cable (the one with resistors in the RGB lines, but no capacitors).

Great! Just the answer I needed.

Ordered some SNES and Playstation scart cables so I will redo them as you mentioned and post the results.

I assume that's the same reason why PS2 acts like this too.

So, I managed to make the SCART cable for my modded PAL SNES. The picture quality is great, as same as the colors.

When I switch to 60 Hz and PVM switches to NTSC 4.43, the colors are perfect too. The only problem I've noticed is that the picture is a bit wobbly, it looks like it shakes a bit. Nothing too noticeable at first, but you can notice that 1-2 mm movement of the picture.

I haven't changed the cable, I only modified the SCART connector with the resistors and the AV connector side too. The cable quality is not the best, it's not even shielded so GND goes though one of the wires. I will try and make another one with better cables and really insulate every component inside the SCART connector.

Can someone tell me if it's the cable issue or there is something else.

I repeat, in PAL mode there aren't any issues.

If someone is interested of making his own cable, this AV connector opens quite easily (just a notice, it comes with capacitors inside the SCART connector, so be careful):
