Official "Games You Hate" Thread

Post by Zweihander »

EDIT: Decided to change the title, since "bad" games are a matter of opinion, I guess. ^^;

Image
You know the ones.

(A) The games you would destroy right now if they weren't so expensive when you bought them.

(B) The games you're really glad you only rented, since they're so bad, someone would have to pay you to take them off your hands.

(C) Or the games you bought dirt-cheap for the sole purpose of destroying them. (that'd be me.)

Here's my listings for the above categories:

(A)
Devil May Cry 2
Final Fantasy X-2
Ehrgeiz (the dungeon crawler mode is the only reason I keep this game.)
Final Fantasy VIII. (7 started losing it, 8 lost it completely, and 9 was a nice flashback to the oldschool before 10+onward ruined everything.)

(B)
Drakengard
Fullmetal Alchemist PS2
Samurai Legend Musashi
Enter The Matrix
Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick. (not much to it, except for the one-liner button.)
Xenosaga (whoever gave Namco the necessary rights to ruin Xenogears needs to be shot.)
The Bouncer
Tekken 3+ (I love the original Tekken, and Tekken 2; they had Matrix-esque "virtua fighter jumping", and that's what I loved. 3 and onward became too sluggish for my tastes.)

(C)
Any sports game (except for Blades of Steel, Base Wars, and NFL Blitz)
Silver Surfer (NES)
Halo (I'd do it if I could find it dirt-cheap.)
Diddy Kong Racing (if found dirt-cheap.)
Bad Dudes (Haven't destroyed it; considered it, but I keep it around for novelty purposes ONLY. ...I'M BAD!)
The original Dragon Warrior. (trust me. I love old-school RPG's, but DW1 was crap even for its time.)
The Original Megaman. (I like Rockman and all, but... Jesus, the first megaman game was horrid. ><)
Shaq Fu
My CD-R of Chaos Field.

Well, let's get some lists going!

Halo? What?
Be attitude for gains:
1) Be praying...
2) Be praying...
3) Be praying...

And a shameless plug for the stuff I'm selling on eBay, if you're into that sort of thing.

Sorry.. The only FPS I can really stand is Half-Life 2 Deathmatch. (online only; the stupidity of allied A.I. in story mode prevented me from being able to enjoy it. Half the time, the rebels would get in my way, rather than help me.)

I tried Unreal for a while, didn't like it too much, didn't hate it; it made me miss the free-form object interaction in HL2, as with all other FPS's without a gravgun. Bungee, give me a gravgun in Halo 3, and I'll love you forever.)

Oh, and with that said,
Halo 2 needs to burn. Can't believe I forgot to throw Halo 2 up there...

First mention of FF7! Fuck the final fantasy series, this is where all those japanese rpgs started going down hill. Also every MGS past the orignal and every Gran Turismo past 3 needs to burn in hell. These two series are simply coasting by on fanboyism and dropped good gameplay from their agenda a long ass time ago.

I don't think I've ever seen a forum that got so much enjoyment out of random, unsubstantiated bitching about anything and everything.

Here's my list:

Ikaruga
Gradius V
Gunstar Heroes
Salamander II
Contra III
Super Mario World
Super Castlevania IV
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Jet Grind Radio

Here comes the "I've nothing better to do, let's spam!" team . No wonder how many threads get locked up around here.

Can't believe I forgot to mention...

Shooter: Space Shot
Shooter: Starfighter Sanvein (I liked it for a little while, before I realized the soundtrack was the only good thing about it)
All the 3-D remakes of the mid-late 90's (Pong, Galaga, Asteroids, etc etc.)

Haha, that made me laugh. Don't know why.

The worst game I've ever played is Street Combat for the SNES. After finding out it was at one time a Ranma 1/2 game, I was amazed to that a company could edit a game so much.

Worst game this gen? Hidden Invasion for PS2 is up there.

All I wanted was something at least similar to the Dynamite Cop games man, that's all I wanted...and now I've paid the price. A $10 price, but still pricey for whatever anyone sells this game for.

Consider how many threads on Off Topic eventually devolve into people bitching about games or systems they don't like. Am I the only person who's sick of the rampant negativity and pessimism that pervades every single discussion?

PS: I really do hate the games I listed, either due to them being crushing disappointments after previous entries or having design decisions that just don't click with me.

Edit: Tell you what, instead of bitching about the negativity I'll do my part to try and change it. Thread made.

With that list you're stepping on a lot of toes (including mine). But it's all good - after all everyone's entitled to their own!

In my case it would have to be:

Glover (PSX version) - that game pissed me off more times than I can even recall...

Ninja: Shadow of Darkness (PSX) - that was one of the worst excuses for a 3-D platformer I've ever played. My wife worked for a children's home @ the time I owned it, & between all the boys & me, even w/ the invincibility & unlimited lives cheats turned on we still couldn't complete it.

Low G Man - maybe I just didn't get it, but it just didn't click with me & I kinda ended up hating it.

Fantastic Four for PSX was pretty bad. Brain dead AI and crappy, pixelated, graphics are not a good mix.

Anything published by EA that isn't Fight Night or Burnout.

Also, for games that I buy just to burn: anything made by 3DO.

This was actually the first game that came to mind. :D

There was that Incredible Hulk PSX launch game also that was horrendous.

Haha remember Iron Man/X-O Manowar In Heavy Metal?

25 To Life is an abominable disaster of a game, I actually did play it for a bit. It's not just bad because I hate hip hop, it's definitely a contender for worst game of 2006.

If a thread is bad enough, the mods will do their job and close it, no need to spam it with random messages. What's wrong with negative threads anyways? Spammers are worse.

I gave my opinion of the thread, and then did what the thread asked by listing games I really don't like. Just because you don't like the reply doesn't mean it was spam. It was entirely on topic. I could give reasons for each game I listed if you'd like.

Oh, and there's nothing wrong with negative threads. The problem comes when almost every single thread devolves into bitching about games people don't like, or systems people don't like, or companies people don't like. We know people hate EA and Halo and wish Sony would curl up and die because that eventually becomes the focus of just about anything game-related in this forum. It's repetitive and tiresome.

Oh, that sethsez, he's such a card...
sethsez, for being one bold motherfucker n., I hereby declare you the Boldest Motherfucker of the Year Award, 2006.

Also, more games for the list:
Robotech: The Macross Saga
the Kim Possible game for GBA. (played it once... *shudder*)
Guilty Gear Isuka (Sammy really shot themselves in the foot with this one...)
The Yu-Gi-Oh games. All of them. Want to play a card game? play the fucking card game. It's like the next game on my list...
Pokemon: Card Game for Game Boy.

Disclaimer: I have nothing against the card games, just their pointless digital counterparts. On the reverse end of the spectrum, we have FF8's card game, Triple Triad, which was the only good thing about that game...

Like I said, I can back up my opinion on every single one if you'd like. Though I've already talked about several here before, I'm more than willing to do it again.

Though, if you'd like I'll narrow it down to games I really don't enjoy, not just the ones I found disappointing compared to others:

Gradius V
Gunstar Heroes
Contra III
Super Castlevania IV
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Jet Grind Radio

I guess I could also list shit like Ehrgeiz or Action 52, but everybody hates those and it would make a boring list. It's like making a "movies you hate" thread and then just listing everything made by the Sci-Fi channel. I mean, yeah, the movies suck, but everyone already knew that. It's much more interesting to list, say, The Empire Strikes Back or Jurassic Park or something.

I can honestly say I love Ikaruga, but I don't enjoy it the least. Weird, I know, but true. Unless I'm going two-player with my gf, and we're just playing for fun; but otherwise, when playing for score, it's more of a chore than anything. >_<

I didn't like Sonic 3, but loved Sonic & Knuckles... I think the soundtrack may have me biased though. (S&K, imho, had a great OST; S3, on the other hand, was crap-- in level design AND music..)
