What's going on in the PS3 mod scene?

Post by evil_ash_xero »

I have a modder that I tend to just ask this stuff, but he hasn't been paying attention to the PS3 much. So, I thought I would come here, and ask you fine gentleman.

I had my XBox 360 "RGH" modded, and am looking for something similar to that. I would like to be able to run my games off of a HDD, without the need for the BluRays. However, I'm assuming I'd have to get a bigger HDD, since BluRays are big AF.

He mentioned to me that he thought you would not be able to keep your original disc drive, with the mods that are out now. Is this the case? I would very much like to have something like an RGH modded XBox 360, where I have both.

Also, if there are mods like this (I'm guessing there are), will going online be impossible? It's not a deal breaker, but it'd be a shame not to be able to play the Souls games online.

Info appreciated.

I think this is the only solution to what you are looking for.

I can't say if it's good or not, haven't tried it, but you should be able to check if your ps3 is compatible, and if it is exactly what you are looking for.

hi Sam , i have put CFW on 2 or 3 of my PS3 Slims. I bought a E3 Flasher and followed a guide/tutorial at PS3 Scene , i have about 11 PS3's so i got the E3 Flasher instead of getting someone to do it as it would cost a lot for their service. If your getting just the one done yeah pay for someone to do a Flash , also you need a compatible PS3 model some PS3's can't be flashed yet.

download PS3 Console Compatibility GUI to check if your PS3 is flashable. btw when you get it done increase the internal Fan speed higher as this will keep your PS3 running at better temps , the stock speed is too low and thats what YLOD is about.

you may want to get a new 2.5 inch HDD to put your games on that resides inside the PS3 , i think the maximum is 1TB you can use.

This might be a dumb question, but is CFW required when using an ODE on a PS3? I never really had time to get into PS3 modding, but it's on my list of things to work on.

no you dont need CFW to get a ODE just the ODE on its own. I do have a ODE but its still in its original packaging , i prefer CFW as you can do more with it.
