Hello,
Does somebody know if Mak and G-Front still charge credit card fees? what about other Akiharaba shops like Try, Beep, Trader, etc. I'm visiting Tokyo in November and was wondering about the credit card acceptance and fees. Last time I was in Tokyo was in 2007 so I imagine things have changed a lot since then.
Thanks,

I don't know about card fees, but apparently TRY and G-front No longer sell over the counter.

Oh wow. I didn't know that. So are they now mail order only companies? That's pretty strange.

MAK still does over the counter but I don't recall seeing a credit card swiper.

They used to. I bought stuff from them using a credit card in 2004 and 2007.

it was 5% when i was there last year if you used your card in store at mak, the nearest atm iirc was in the 4th floor of the dept store next to aki station (the one you pass on your right if going into the main part of aki though the underpass with the mcdonalds that has the sign saying japanese style mcdonalds/ the side of akb48)
g-front were willing to sell direct in store then (july/august 2015) but could tell he didn't want to be hassled by gaijin so know what you want and don't ask any questions regarding stock you'll just be referred to the list, they'll test and demo in front of you as do mak (missed out on a guwange because it had sprite issues when tested in g-front), also it opens/opened at 3 so a bit later than the others, and won't do business before then even if in store and you know what you want.

I see. Thank you for the information. I guess cash will be then. I'm only going to buy a Super Gun so it's not a big deal. These days, PCB prices are sky high and the cost of the few ones I'm missing would be prohibitivejugemscloud wrote:it was 5% when i was there last year if you used your card in store at mak, the nearest atm iirc was in the 4th floor of the dept store next to aki station (the one you pass on your right if going into the main part of aki though the underpass with the mcdonalds that has the sign saying japanese style mcdonalds/ the side of akb48)

Re: Do Mak and G-Front still charge credit card fees?
no problem, when i was there i felt that mak had the better stock and definitely took more pride in their business, though there were lots of parts kicking about in g-front so you might find something there for a sg that mak might not have.
Re: Do Mak and G-Front still charge credit card fees?
Yeah, I also like Mak better because they are more friendly. G-Front staff look at you like if you are going to steal something
