DVDO VPxx spares? (remote control)

Post by h1ghju1ce »

I've just bought a VP50 Pro from eBay, but it doesnt come with a remote, I was just wondering what the possibilities are:

- I know you can use the front panel menu etc, but that seems like it would be slow/fiddly

- Is there a place that does DVDO remotes still?

- Does anyone know what the DVDO remote vendor code is if I was to try a universal remote?

- I know the unit can be controlled via RS232 terminal interface, is there any existing GUI software that sends the commands via COMx to the box?
(although I guess that would be simple enough to throw together as a fun project myself, as it shouldnt be rocket science)

thanks for any help/advice :-)

There's a graphical RS232 utility by Barry Gordon: http://www.the-gordons.net/homepage/DownLoad.html

You can use any DVDO remote, but the earlier ones did only have a single power switch, while the later ones have dedicated ON and OFF buttons. This means that using the older remotes you cannot put your VP into standby. Not a huge deal, but good to know I guess.

The DVDO codes are all available at remotecentral et al, so you should have no problems using a programmable remote.
