Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
Don't get me wrong, I love that kind of stuff and look forward to displaying it. But I get the impression that many collectors are of the opinion that the money would have been better spent on the game disc than on the merchandise, which is fair enough.Keres wrote:Personally, I don't really care that much about physical media and am solely buying the premium edition to get a few pieces of Garegga merchandise, since very little actually exists for it.phase3 wrote:when the game disc is what collectors actually want.
Another contingent of the lot here seems to think we should just be glad that this is happening, which is also fair enough. But to some, sending the message that we don't require discs or physical media is the altogether wrong message to send, and that by purchasing the set may be doing just that. I don't think it's wrong to worry that if we were all to get excited for the "wrong reasons," then we may be influencing future decisions on what they think prospective buyers actually want to buy.
Personally, although I would have loved to see the set include the disc, I'm still quite pleased with what we are getting. I hope they do decide to package game discs in future installments of the shot triggers series.

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
That point has already been countered - console discs have minimum runs, which it is sometimes hard for shmups to meet. If they don't produce discs they don't have to worry about that, and can fine tune their production numbers for the LE set.phase3 wrote:I think getsu's point is that it isn't exactly cost effective for them to manufacture trinkets and all that, when the game disc is what collectors actually want.
Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
Limited Run Games is doing print runs of 3000 units. Has it been discussed how they're able to produce that quantity? Seems like it would be perfect for something like this.CStarFlare wrote:That point has already been countered - console discs have minimum runs, which it is sometimes hard for shmups to meet. I'd bet with a disc that premium box would sell much, much more.

Would you be able to explain why Darius Burst for the PS4 is getting a Physical Release way later than the Digital Release?dan76 wrote:

Be happy this is happening at all.
Wouldn't most people who wanted to play the game already have purchased the Digital Release? My guess is that they are trying to get fans to double dip.

Well said

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
I think this is pretty much where physical releases are headed - "complete/ultimate/definitive/final editions" during the decline stage of the product life cycle, targeting consumers willing to double dip.Shelcoof wrote:Would you be able to explain why Darius Burst for the PS4 is getting a Physical Release way later than the Digital Release?

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
I can, the Japanese PR statement for the physical DBCS info says that "many users requested a physical version for PS4". The Japanese demographic means free domestic shipping, store discounts, used market, resell market, collector's market, etc. It's easier to buy and sell physical games in Japan than to pay a full price, tax included, monetary valueless digital version tied to your account.Shelcoof wrote:Would you be able to explain why Darius Burst for the PS4 is getting a Physical Release way later than the Digital Release?
Limited Run Games are doing God's work, but I've yet to buy a single thing from them. It's meaningless if the original developers/publishers don't understand the reasons behind the preservation of history. It's not all about pandering to collectors. It's literally a matter of the fact that download codes expire, and digital games are occasionally delisted. Take Pulseman, for example - the game was only released physically in Japan on Megadrive and only had a digital Sega Channel appearance, which is obviously unavailable now. It's worth an easy 20,000+ yen now and was completely inaccessible until the Virtual Console release happened.
I'd like to think that preserving history isn't all about collectors. Nobody should be forced to hack their 360/PS3 if they want to own/play Outrun Online Arcade (which is delisted from PSN/XBLA, and this is the only way to get it assuming you don't have the game already). SNK's entire "NeoGeo Collection" library on PS3 was delisted recently. There are over 100 XBLA games that are now delisted, including Jojo HD, MvC2, Pinball FX, Marble Blast Ultra, After Burner Climax and a ton of others. Many of them are delisted without any announcement at all.
Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
That said I'm betting Battle Garegga is going to go the physical route once it reaches that declining stage. After hearing the News about Darius Burst going Physical for the PS4 I'm not buying that argument that going physical is not profitable enough.HydrogLox wrote:I think this is pretty much where physical releases are headed - "complete/ultimate/definitive/final editions" during the decline stage of the product life cycle, targeting consumers willing to double dip.Shelcoof wrote:Would you be able to explain why Darius Burst for the PS4 is getting a Physical Release way later than the Digital Release?

Yhaa this is the reason why I own multiple Xbox 360s and PS3s at the moment. I have multiple Digital Content that are digital only and some no longer available to be purchased online.Elixir wrote:Shelcoof wrote:

Owning a few systems with the content already downloaded and working allows me to preserve what I have. Its funny because I just bought my 4rth PS3 about two days ago and is in the process of updating it with games and patches lol.
Took me over a year to do with four Xbox 360s

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
They could sell two games on one disc. I assume they release some more shmups under the M2 ShotTriggers brand. They could do collection under this brand and always release 2 Games on one disc or all on one. This way the minimum number of discs should be no problem.

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
I'll definitely buy the PE release, I think this releases should be supported if we want to see more classic games revived, if it included the game in a disc it would be better but well... You're getting some goodies and Garegga nicely improved in 2016, that's great news!
I don't think you will need a TATE mode, the average modern tvs are big enough in their standard horizontal position to show a pretty decent gameplay zone. Also the added interface showing the rank seems useful to understand the game.
Kudos for M2.

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
There's typically more lag on TVs though, it's often better to play on a monitor (and since they're also typically smaller, tate is welcome).

I would 1000x prefer to have a physical disc and not all the superfluous junk that comes in limited editions these days. It would even be cheaper too! I simply can't understand why they would do this...
Somebody please tell me I'm wrong and they are still deciding.
Be happy this is happening at all.
Yes, this is exactly my point. I mean, I understand that some people want that kind of extra stuff, but I think even most of those people can agree the game on a disk would be what people are really excited about.
As for minimum orders for printing. I believe Sony has done away with that, at least to the point where that would make any difference. Its why Retro City Rampage was first ported to it physically and that eventually led to what we have now with Limited Run Games. Although Japanese rules could be different, Battle Garegga should be able to move a few thousand units no problem. Shmups might be niche, but it's not THAT much of a niche.
Great news on Darius, I'll be double dipping in a sense since I already have the Vita LE.
This is M2's first foray into publishing, which probably explains why they are not willing to risk a physical version right off the bat. Here is hoping that changes eventually, because both Battle Garegga and Dangun Feveron deserve their own space on a shelf.

by the rest of the interview (and thanks to a friend who translated) they are boldly stating that this is going to be the best arcade port ever made on a console; getting the usual suspects superplayers to test it and making sure it runs at the correct speed, which they nailed in a couple months from the start of the development
M2 are truly the best

it's already a miracle that we're getting a premium edition in the first place, disc or no disc

So they rearranged the interface relatively recently, to make room for the Boss HP box.

Maybe it's not too late to add that kill score tracker from Batrider? It could replace the Controller area as a toggle or something.

It'd be nice if you can customize what widgets appear, and where.

I hope they have a nice range of background images available as well, for those who don't want the equivalent of a Boeing 747 cockpit displayed around the game window. :VKeres wrote:It'd be nice if you can customize what widgets appear, and where.

No, but I don't expect a shit port from M2. I should have clarified though that what I meant was that I won't buy a physical package that has no physical game content. Just call it Battle Garegga Arrange Soundtrack 2016 instead. This is true. The premium edition is for collectors after all. I will buy a Steam port if it comes, just to support M2. I have no time to play games.Van_Artic wrote:

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
Sorry guys but releasing a Limited Edition with no game on phsical media cause the limited amount of disc make it impossible or something is bulls..t.
Just look at these companies here:
https://signatureeditiongames.com/
https://limitedrungames.com/
If they can do it with Indie games, every other company like M2 can manage it also. There is no more to say.
Artwork and so on, nice, but no disc = dealbreaker!!

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
Couple of issues with that line of thinking. Most indie games that get physical releases from people like these have either already been released through digital distribution routes or are made by the development team these short run distributors are technically part of. Garegga is neither of those. They're also expected to return the kind of profit that makes these physical runs possible, and usually do. Shmups in general don't do that anymore. Garegga? I'd be surprised if anyone outside the shmup or collector communities picks it up period, let alone the existing limited edition or a hypothetical disc run.Shadolf wrote:Sorry guys but releasing a Limited Edition with no game on phsical media cause the limited amount of disc make it impossible or something is bulls..t.
