LRG isn't doing Wild Guns, Natsume themselves are doing a physical release for the NA market

I was playing WG on the super famicom the other week and it is still fresh in memory; they have added a few new characters and improved the graphics a bit. The large boss on the first level looks nastier his time around too

More Bromances = safer people
Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
this. they inquired at e3 about it since they were interested in doing a run but a natsume rep that it was already being released by natsume in limited quantity (which was the first time hearing about a physical release for reloaded).drunkninja24 wrote:LRG isn't doing Wild Guns, Natsume themselves are doing a physical release for the NA market
I hope they gain interest in garegga cause I know a lot of people here would snag it if an official release isn't in the pipeworks.
I'm on the edge for the BG LE because I love the game, but I'm with the people who are disappointed by the digital code.

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
Anyone with an active Twitter account, tag Limited Run Games and hear if they are interested in snagging up the game for an overseas physical release. Considering how dead set every shmup fan is on getting their hans on a physical copy of this, it should be a surefire sold out in a matter of hours.

I actually did this as soon as I learned that the LE was going to have a download code. I'm not sure if LRG is interested in this game or if their customers would buy it, but they were able to sell 3200 copies of Soldner X2 for the VITA. I could see a sub-10,000 run of Battle Garegga selling out as well. They might be the best hope for a physical release now, or maybe there will be a Shot Trigger compilation disc after they release more games in this line.

M2 comp discs are the best. PS2 AGES 2500s make my boner rage to this day.
I'm in with them on this project whatever, though. From day 1 (MD Gauntlet, an X68k fan project so accomplished it received worldwide pro release), they've treated porting as a serious discipline and a hobbyist's labour of love. Even M2 ports of games I don't personally care for I'll watch with interest, so there's no question here.

Why is there lag in MAME, is that not also in the PCB? Is the game just poorly emulated or is the lag suppose to be there?Xyga wrote:Closer to 'perfect' only if you have an adaptive sync compatible computer setup and using GroovyMAME with finely tuned frame_delay and tweaked USB ports or anything faster (or use a 15khz crt setup to skip all that shit).pegboy wrote:Ok so they are re-releasing a game that is nearly 20 years old and runs in MAME perfectly
The thing is on a console, if the developers pay attention to such things (apparently this is the case here), the port has potential to be better playable than the emulated thing. It is already the case with many shmups ports on the 360; putting aside the often poorer scaling/filtering options, accuracy and responsiveness can easily be superior to MAME.
The PS4 is also a good platform since it's not crippled with too much lag (iirc the Xbone had some by default, dunno if things have changed with new fw since then).
I like emulation a lot, but a good console port defeats everything IMHO, even official PC ports.
Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
IIRC some people here mentioned those Raizing games may have their own 'natural' lag, yes, then - I don't know the science behind it but - I think MAME works with several layers running together, the emulated hardware core (game driver), the video (translating the running code into an image on your screen), the input layer (in charge of I/O stuff), and maybe another one for the sound, I'm not sure.
Each one depending on the ability of the driver and the settings used, might produce an either fixed and/or variable amount of delay, all adding up. And I don't even mention what's related to the computer OS and the display, both adding more delay on top of all that.
So if I am even half right about how this stuff works, it is conceivable that a port of a game specifically developed for a single platform could outperform a solution made for an 'universal' environment, like a multi-emulator running on a heavy all-purpose OS à la Windows.
The game's original lag if any might still be present, but all the slow shit from the emulator and OS might not, assuming the people who conceived the console and the devs in charge of the port know their actual shit and care about things in life.
EDIT: in short you could have 2 frames of natural lag on the pcb and barely any more than that with the console port, but 4 frames on your windows emulation setup, and struggle to win a few milliseconds using chains of things to fight lag (better display, tweaked emulator builds, hacks, better gamepad/stick pcb, etc etc)
This is why console ports can be so nice.

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
Yes, but removing lag that is inherent to the PCB is fundamentally altering the game. You can't say MAME doesn't run it perfectly if it is emulating the native lag of the PCB. If there is additional lag on top of that, then sure you can fault the emulator.
Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
We don't know yet about the incoming port's potential lag anyway. Maybe it retains the original game's, maybe it doesn't. Maybe M2 have added settings to tune the delay as well, like they did with the Futari port.
The latter is the smartest thing to do in any case, because not everyone owns a lagless (or almost) display.
When it comes to emulation though I agree, if running 'hands off' (no forced vsync or buffering) the emulator adds more delay to the original, then it's at fault.
I don't have memories of the opposite though, emulators running games with less lag than in original conditions, at least not without obvious issues.

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
Yes, we know about it and i posted it before.
There will be an option to keep the original PCB lag or "lagless" like the Saturn version.

The president of M2 posted an informal Twitter poll asking people about their preferences in format--vote #1 for disc (or #4 for Neo-Geo cart...) if that's something you're adamant about: https://twitter.com/hor11/status/775990647375310849
Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
Does Play-Asia cancel preorders? I didn't realize it was a dlc code, (should've done my research).

I feel bad for canceling my order because I really want to support this series but I'm sure someone will quickly snap it up.

Looks like about 600 people so far have voted with ~63% in favor of a disc release. Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
If I remember right, in part 1 they talked about the porting process and what they went through to get the game running at the exact correct speed on PS4 compared to the PCB, talked about the new UI gadgets, had an exhibition play, and talked about the premium edition. I think part 2 was largely about the new music.

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
Wow, so the "premium edition" is a dlc code and not a disk? I preordered it on Amazon, looks like I need to cancel. I would 1000x prefer to have a physical disc and not all the superfluous junk that comes in limited editions these days. It would even be cheaper too! I simply can't understand why they would do this...
Somebody please tell me I'm wrong and they are still deciding.

Shmups generally don't make much money, even masterpieces. It's not cost effective in any way to make a physical disc.gatsu25 wrote:Wow, so the "premium edition" is a dlc code and not a disk? No disc confirmed or darius effect with physical down the line perhaps? 8700 yen on, now 9500?
Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
I think getsu's point is that it isn't exactly cost effective for them to manufacture trinkets and all that, when the game disc is what collectors actually want.dan76 wrote:Shmups generally don't make much money, even masterpieces.
