You're right, I removed Novastorm now. What it lacks in gameplay, it sure takes back in amazing graphics and especially in music!Fenrir wrote: Shocky, I don't think you can list Novastorm here because it's considered a "borderliner" (shmup on rails a-la Rez). If the boss thinks otherwise let me know and I'll vote for Novastorm as wellOh and many, many kudos for voting Carcharodon and Philosoma, two of my absolutely fave but underrated by just about everyone.
Yeah, Carcharodon is virtually unknown even though it was one of the very best amiga shooters, what a shame :/ I'm pretty amazed though how Philosoma doesn't get any votes.. maybe ppl didn't play it enough and never knew how it gets better stage by stage. The cinematics were of super high quality too.

Just put a high number on your favorite game(s), and then put lower numbers on your lesser favorite(s). Most of your vote will then go toward the high numbered game(s), and a small amount of your vote will go toward the lower numbered ones.Zweihander wrote:i still don't get how this number system works... i've read the rules 3 times now, it's too complicated. can't it be made simpler?

well, the numbers are completely arbitrary, the only thing that counts is relative size between the items one person listed. For example, if person A lists
[100] [game 1]
[50] [game 2]
[10] [game 3]
and person B lists
[10] [game 1]
[5] [game 2]
[1] [game 3]
both votes would count exactly equal. The simpler methods you suggested (e.g. everybody gets 100 points to distribute) have the slight disadvantage of not allowing absolutely precise votes, there would always be cases where someone thinks game X should get 4.5 points but has to give 4 or 5. If someone thinks game 1 is a million times better than game 2, he can express this opinion with the current vote system. (there´s probably SOME hidden limit to the sigifying digits, though

List your favorite shooters, and rank them by how much better you think one game is than another. If you think Cross a Fear is five times better than Gecko 2, you could put [25] Cross a Fear and [5] Gecko 2, or [5] and [1], or [5000] and [1000], whatever. I suppose that way you could actually put in some games you don't like, for example [1000000] Batty Guns [1] de-Rezz On! - though they probably wouldn't appreciate that.Dartagnan1083 wrote:can someone please explain the integers in the brackets?

His numbering is very logical, actually. Based on his rankings, Ikaruga is tops. He thinks Ketsui, DoDonpachi Dai-Ou-Jou and Radiant Silvergun are exactly 10% lower than his top ranking for Ikaruga. The rest are exactly half the ranking score of Ikaruga. It's a valid use of the scoring system (which he could have done by assigning Ikaruga a 10, the next three games a 9 and the rest a 5).elvis wrote:I was thinking the same thing. I don't mean that I disagree with the parameters of the poll - I just mean that we're using a name to classify games when the game of that name fits every bit as much as Spy Hunter would (which I think doesn't really fit in the poll, but regardless). Does that make any sense? It'd be like saying "you can't choose Invader games like...um, Real Time Strategy games, where you invade things," but of course Space Invaders is allowed. ;)
Am I incorrect in thinking that Spy Hunter should count?

Ed, "Borderliners" is not used as a reference to that game. It's an english word that means on the edge of a genre's border... The fact that there's a shmup named Borderline is purely incidental.Ed Oscuro wrote:I don't mean that I disagree with the parameters of the poll - I just mean that we're using a name to classify games when the game of that name fits every bit as much as Spy Hunter would (which I think doesn't really fit in the poll, but regardless). Re: my top 20
I was in doubt between it and the classic Dropzone, but eventually i voted for the latter. However yes, it's a great game that deserves more love.thefox74 wrote:1 datastorm (amiga) Nobody seems to mention this game, it's great!

I love you. What can I say, if this game could be eligible, I would change my top 25 and would assign all my votes just to it!Keranu wrote: [15] [Guerilla Wars (NES)]
However, as awesome it is to be Castro and fight Batista's oppressive regime, the game won't pass as a shmup (and rightly so, I'd add).
