Hi I am new!

Post by EpicCrafter1 »

Hi, I am new here, as you already saw in the title.

I am a fps player, usually playing games like Doom and Quake (A lot of minecraft recently, too). While exploring youtube for ytpmvs (Youtube Poop Music Videos...If you don't know what that is, it's best to look it up) to watch. I came across one that was a remix of a song from Cho Ren Sha 68k using GTA3 sources. I decide to look up the original soundtrack and find out that it is actually a game (No suprise there). I decided to download and try it for myself, and I must say, I love it. Hard as heck though (Currently can get to stage 4 without dying, and 5 before losing all lives). I decided to try another game I heard of, Rayforce. (Played Raystorm a lot for a year) It's even harder, but I am hooked.

Needless to say, I have had my interest in Shoot 'Em Ups piqed. I wanna know what games you guys have to suggest. (Please no Bullet Hells, not yet anyways)

Edit: Just realized what bullet hell actual meant, and turns out I am technically playing one, so ignore the above request, I am perfectly ready.

Hello - if you're new to the genre may I be so bold as to suggest checking out this and/or this.

CRS68K is the perfect entry shmup: free, fraught and fantastic.

It's not far away from bullet hell either, so don't be afraid to dip your toes. Get the 1CC and you'll be hooked for life. You might even give up FPS's. ;)

Whoa, Im not going to give up FPSs like doom just like that, that aint how I work. (I like to explore all kinds of different games  )
Edit: Just realized what the acronym "CRS68K" meant, whoops XD

If you look up Doom Slaughterfest on youtube, you will definitely see what bullet hell is like in first person. I dunno, just felt like throwing that out there...

I am also playing Battle Garegga a bit, kinda shuffling things as I go along, not gonna exceed 3 games at a time though. (You have NO idea how long it took me to get that darn rom working in MAME.)

Don't let me put you off one of the best STGs ever made, but Garegga may take some working up to.
If you are dead set on working on it, though, bear in mind that there is a particularly unforgiving rank system at work that may take some research and some play style adjustments. If you find that you are getting frustrated and unable to make progress, I suggest you take a look at http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=351. No matter what, though, as long as you are having fun, you are doing it right!

Good luck.

Yeah, I did look it up in STG Weekly, so I got that down. If you ask me though, I think the rank system was unnecessary, and probably overpowered. (Atleast you can get through by monitoring your item intake and lives)

I wouldn't consider Mushi 1 original modes bullet hells, try them. Also try some older shmups (start with Toaplan's games, Twin Cobra and Dogyuun are great and not too crazy).

Battle Bakraid may be worth a try. While BB has its similiarities in general playstyle, I feel that the rank system in it is more forgiving than Garegga's.
Kinect? KIN NOT.
