Best wire (solid vs stranded) for RGB mods?

Post by sofakng »

What's the recommend wire types and sizes for performing RGB mods? Solid or stranded? 30 AWG Kynar or something smaller?

I use solid, easier to strip and works fine, not sure of any other pros or cons but I'm sure you could use either. for Gauge I use any where from 20 - 30 AWG depending on the application, I try to go the biggest I can in that range to get the best connection. I have not used anything smaller that 30 so if that's what you have no need to go smaller and never had any problems using 30 so probably not necessary to go bigger either.

I've been using 26AWG kynar-insulated solid silver-plated copper wire (R26BLK-0100), mainly because it's the only stuff I've got handy. I didn't experience any issues with it, though, apart from the fact that it would have been way easier to do the NESRGB install with rainbow ribbon cable. But from an electrical standpoint, it seems to work fine.

I will say, though, that it's thicker wire than is probably ideal for fine work (like mod chips), and it might not be a bad idea to use thicker wire for ground wires.

a lot of the time i use multi colored ribbon cable. Its way easier to work with than having all your wires 1 color.
