Questions that do not deserve a thread
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
When you buy an RGB unit, make sure it has the vertical adjustment on it, not just the horizontal adjustment. While it's not your intended use case, only the units with a vertical adjustment can be used as the input to a downscaler that averages lines starting on the second line instead of the first, which produces blurry 240p-as-480p-back-to-240p results: the RGB interface is used to push everything down a line so that it lines up correctly.

The Keene Scart Commander I use has a 3.5mm jack for audio output. Looks nice, though the SCART end is male and will require a female-to-female coupler if you want to feed Scart to it.Fudoh wrote:I think all the other ones don't have audio outputs.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Could the S-video cable (mini din 4) been used for an RGBs signal or does each channel actually need its own ground?
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
If the s-video cable actually has four distinct conductors (as in, they didn't skimp out and go with three) or is the proper twin coaxial type, then you could theoretically pass RGsB over it, but you don't have a fifth conductor for RGBS. Even then, I'd imagine you'd get a lot of interference trying to run video signals over the shielding of other video signals, and by sharing the ground with all three signals, and by the fact that some of your signals would have a different resistance than others (due to some being shields and some being regular conductors)...

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
The outside would be the ground.
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
The shell of the connector is either connected to the shield of the overall cable assembly, or it's connected to the two ground pins, or it's not connected to anything at all. You're basically describing a setup that would only work with very specific s-video cables, and you'd probably need to buy a ton of s-video cables and cut them open or test them with a multimeter to figure out which ones would even work with such a setup... And after all that trouble, there would probably be a ton of interference...

Do you think the PS4 Neo will play existing PS4 games at more stable framerates?
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Existing games are most likely frame locked, but it should raise the average minimum fps.GeneraLight wrote:Do you think the PS4 Neo will play existing PS4 games at more stable framerates?

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
I'd be surprised if it didn't. Same with upcoming titles, I don't buy Sony's BS statements, the PS4 NEO is a computer that received small but real hardware upgrades, there is no way it won't perform at least a little better in areas where it showed weaknesses in its original configuration, and developers would be fools not to take advantage of that for their newer productions.GeneraLight wrote:Do you think the PS4 Neo will play existing PS4 games at more stable framerates?
PS: and Sony DO expect a lot of its customers to renew their base hardware. I predict used original PS4's will soon exchange for peanuts.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
I'm actually pretty glad I held off on buying game consoles this generation, especially with all these substantial upgrades coming. I did purchase a Wii U, for Bayonetta and few other games so I'm glad about that. although I'm wondering if the upcoming Nintendo NX will have support for Wii U titles out of the box (and if so, will it enhance them at all?)
there really isn't that much exclusive or interesting stuff on PS4 right now, but I'm assuming that will change after the release of Neo, at least I hope so. haven't been any games besides KOF XIV and Final Fantasy XV (both of which I'm assuming will get PC releases down the line) that I've been excited about.
and there doesn't seem to be any reason at all to get an Xbox One (with all of its releases going PC) depending on how things shake out, I have a feeling this is the last real Xbox game console (especially if Xbox Scorpio doesn't move units when it's released)
the PlayStation 4 will probably just be a rolling platform from this point on, getting small hardware upgrades every few years. (although I have a feeling that sometime after Neo, maybe in a few years they'll have to probably relaunch the brand with a different name).

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
I'm having a weird issue with a Genesis 1 over RGB and the mega ever drive flash cart.
The main menu from the ever drive is visible during gameplay in solid color patches. For example in castlevania bloodlines on gray color patches I can read the list of games in the mega drive menu.
Any idea what would cause this?

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
I was asking would it have been feasible, historically. Would it have been just as easy for the posers that be to have given us an RGB interface using a 4pin mini din or similar all those years ago rather than sticking us with only a "better than composite" choice?Guspaz wrote:The shell of the connector is either connected to the shield of the overall cable assembly, or it's connected to the two ground pins, or it's not connected to anything at all. Any recommendations for a SCART adapter to use with a CSY-2100 to extract audio from it? I don't want to waste money on a flimsy piece of crap.

Unfortunately I think the majority of them are shoddy at best. The best method I've seen for extracting audio for one of those is opening up the case to the CSY-2100 and solder a 3.5mm headphone jack to the pins on the scart connector on the inside. If you have used a soldering iron before I would highly recommend this method.LEGENOARYNINLIA wrote:Any recommendations for a SCART adapter to use with a CSY-2100 to extract audio from it? Quick display question. Is it still possible to damage LED monitors or HDTVs by attempting to display an out of spec resolution or signal that they're not capable of processing? I knew that was a problem with CRT monitors, but I just wanted to double check.

Every LCD I've seen just pops up with a message saying its out of range. CRTs will still display an out-of-spec image, whereas an LCD just stops displaying anything.accaris wrote:Quick display question. What is going on here?

I was trying to test out some BVMs (TH-50PH10) at a store, before I buy them. These require Sync on Green, unless you can get to a menu via the remote, which I don't have. So, I hooked Composite Video Sync into Green, and then Red and Blue. I'm not sure if this funky video artifact is the way I had it hooked up, or is a scaler issue with the TV.
The diagonal bands look awful, but they don't appear in the gray. I'm hoping this is just due to the crappy way I had to get RGB set up to test the video. Any information would help!

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Well, I mean if it requires sync on green, I don't think connecting csync into the green input is going to work at all. You're missing an entire channel. This is almost certainly the problem. I didn't think any retro consoles even supported sync on green; I thought they were all RGBS.DarkKobold wrote: I was trying to test out some BVMs (TH-50PH10) at a store, before I buy them. Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Does anyone know where the main cpu control board is located in a bvm d24? I have rescued one from someone's garage and it needs some tlc recapping but I can only see one main non modular board inside which is near the fly back and that seems to be related to power.

Has anyone else noticed jail bars while using a Model 2 PAL Saturn with a CSY-2100?

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Has anyone used a JVC D-series consumer SD CRT here? How do the colors on it compare to a nice Sony Trinitron?
Thinking about picking up an AV-XXD200, AV-XXD201, AV-XXD500 or AV-XXD501. These sets display 700 TVL on the 27" tube and 800 TVL on the 32" tube(which is damn sharp for a consumer set), so I'm definitely curious about them. They also have a component input

I remember there was a user on here that actually picked one up semi-recently. I don't remember if he reported back or not but 800TVL and shadow mask should provide a nice sharp picture. Probably comparable to the NECs in PQ but not as nice of course

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
In sharpness : absolutely. But in color reproduction, I don't expect the JVC D-series to come close to the NEC multisync's. The NECs have very good colors. My Sony FV-300 (and my PVM-2030 for that matter) were both a good cut below the NEC as far as color accuracy goes.tacoguy64 wrote:I remember there was a user on here that actually picked one up semi-recently. Yeah that's true but they would still be nice monitors with possibly their own unique look. Truly worth getting for those that want a nice large crt to game on.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Hi. Just registered on this forum, and it seemed a good place for some advice I need.
I have recently picked up a B&O MX4000 CRT for my retro games, and keen to play some Thunder Force tonight but having some difficulty there.
Does anyone here happen to have the same model telly or familiar with other B&O sets?
I've connected into Scart port AV2, and have tried AV1 as well, but I cannot suss out the menu/Beo4 remote, and get the Megadrive picture showing on screen.
Would appreciate some help if anyone here knows how to access the correct menus to get it working.
Thank you
