The Gradius 1 cover is fucking badass. I know he wasn't around Konami yet at this point, but if I needed artwork for a project like that, I'd try to commission the great Tom Dubois. Of course, that probably wouldn't come cheap.

Hey, Jim. I would like to see that cover if you managed to find someone, since that kind of painting (seen in old posters, magazines) seems to be a dying style. I could be wrong, though

And of course, welcome

Yeah I've been looking around on Deviant Art with no luck so far. That particular art style does seem to have died out a bit sadly. If I ever do find someone of course I'd post it up!

That would be a dream come true, but yeah I'd imagine he would be WAY out of my price range.

No, man, DeviantArt today is nearly all digital (fan)art. Maybe it could be easier if you check out others sites

Hello, everyone! After a good bit of lurking, I decided to finally fire up an account.

I'm Joey and I've been ears deep in video games since my mom got me an NES at 5. The first shooter I remember being enthralled by was R-Type. I've since started tracking down every import shooter I can get my hands on and I'm finally getting halfway decent at Cave titles (no respectable 1CCs yet). I'm currently playing Jamestown, Ginga Force and DDP Resurrection.

I look forward to tracking down some Saturn gold in the near future and thank you all for maintaining a comprehensive and all in forum.

Hello my name is Ben, a child of the 16bit era! Unfortunately the STG genre passed me by as a kid it wasn't until recently when I got myself a PC Engine that I realised what I've been missing! Now I'm hooked and having an absolute blast experiencing all the classic stir the first time! Hoping to post on here regularly and maybe blog about my exploits in the near future.

hi, from vietnam...

i was grown up with nintendo 16bit home machine box and then jump to PC, but sometime i have chances to experience with old insert-coin arcade on super-market and few times with playstation console.....but then i feel like i prefer PC more than anything

no kidding! you guy lucky to have wonderful childhood and gaming life..i feel jealous, console arcade culture on my country is something luxury and weak, nearly non-exist......how sad!

i love shmup game, but i play very bad honestly, my first shmup is euro-shmups,but then now glad i know many more japanese shmups even more brutal, difficult than what i used to play in the past! too bad most of them for arcade, awesome creative gameplay mechanic, but the graphic is not so nice......(no offence, just my private opinion)

i'm hobby-ist music composer, and i also have plan to re-learn programming again to make my own shmup (used to programming in college, but i hate it)

i would like to know and be friend to any artist with generous-heart can help me draw cover art, just for fun,no business!

Dear system11-users,

I would like to introduce myself. I have been read-only on these forums for a very long time and I felt it was appropriate to create an account, at last.
Concerning shmups I have.. sinful pleasures. I enjoy things like P-47 Aces (uhh, bad form) and my most beloved game of all is Progear (there, I said it).
Other than that I find myself spending more time developing games than actually playing, if you don't count the hours of balance testing. Not sure if my stuff will ever get good enough for public release, but I will post screenshots from time to time.

Thanks for having me.
Zorn.

Hi, I've known this site for a long time, but today I decided to join.

I've been playing shmups for around 5 years and I like this genre very much because of the challenge it offers. I mostly play bullet hell games, but I also sometimes play traditional games like Gunbird, which I'm trying to 2-ALL at the moment. I mostly play for the 1CC's, but I have a couple of games that I'm considering to play for score.

I hope we'll get along!

Hey all,

Been lurking this site for years and finally decided to register. My uncle initially got me into shooters in 1988 playing his favorite game Xevious on the NES. I haven't looked back since. Hoping to make some trades and talk strategy. Glad to be aboard!

I made this account just to ask about delay in some game, I don't really care about submitting my scores or discussing or whatever

playing bullet hells with devotion every day, started with touhou, nowadays im playing a lot of other things as well. Currently occupied with Strike Witches STG due to the airing of Brave Witches and my purchase of some nendos. After I 1cc the game with every team I'll upload the videos on yt and write a proper guide, because the game is very obscure and there isn't much English language info available anywhere.

Just posting to say hi; I've known about this site for ages but finally got around to making an account so, after one more fruitless search online, I could ask for help finding a game that's been eluding me for a long while now.

(proudest moment: playing Nemesis (as it was called when I played it) in the arcade, getting to level 6 for the first time ever, and then continuing all the way through that level and the final level in a solid run of adrenalin (and possibly luck))

That and beating Llamatron for the first time, though that's only sort-of-shmup-y, I guess.

Hardly a game I would describe as a sinful pleasure. Progear is easily one of the finest shooters ever made.

Welcome all.
You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

Hey everyone, Los Angeles checking in here. As you can tell from the user name, I'm a big fan of IREM pink submarine shooters, though it's far from my favorite shmup. That'd be Progear. Anyways, happy to be here!

Hello everyone, I'm from Greece and this month I decided to revisit my long lost childhood love for shmups. I'm currently in the process of playing every decent Steam shmup, then hopefully pick one to get good at.

Hi everybody!

Finally getting into shmups more seriously after being introduced via multiplayer Jamestown a few years ago. The feeling of weaving through the bullet patterns was exhilarating, and I've been dabbling with various shmups on Steam ever since. Hoping to find some fellow shmup players in Saskatchewan, Canada.

Hi everyone! I'm from the U.S. and I'm relatively new to shmups. I'm a big fan of the Touhou Project and CAVE games (especially the DonPachi series). Some of my favorite shmups are Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, DoDonPachi DaiOuJou, and Crimzon Clover WORLD IGNITION.
I play these games because of the high enjoyment factor and improving my skills. It's pretty nice to overcome what seems like an impossible challenge.
Anything else? I like Dr Pepper. Thanks for reading :)

It may be late for me to introduce myself.
Hello. I've been playing shmups long ago (mostly Touhou Project series) but I usually played casually. After bought Deathsmiles and Crimzon Clover on Steam now I'm starting to play shmups seriously.
Also I currently start playing Battle Garegga. I must say it is a great shmups, even I feel this game kind of hard because the enemy bullets are hardly to notice. But aside of that I love about its dynamic difficulty (or rank system) that can increases or decreases depending on your action.
Anyway nice to meet you.

recently came across this forum when I found the shmups website when I was reading up on one of my favorite games from the 90's, Gaiares, others I enjoy are the R Type Series, Gradius, Salamander(Lifeforce) and Darius, glad to find a web forum for here as well seeing as these are rare now since sites like Myspace and Facebook came into life

Hi forum members.
I've been playing shmups from time to time on home consoles (some last time played shmups was Life Force for NES, Super R-Type for SNES, Shienryu for PS1 on PSVita, Carrier Air Wing on arcade and Metal Slug on NEO GEO arcade) and arcades. I think I never play shmups on PC or Mac :D
I also own home arcade (JAMMA cabinet) and PCB board for game Carrier Air Wing, and NEO GEO arcade board with game cartridge with Metal Slug.

Hello people

This is my first post here , looks like a nice place where to learn all about shmups.

I found this thanks to a good friend and I'm ready to start playing shumps .

I always was and still I'm a street fighter and Capcom beat them ups player and the only shmups I've played in the past at the arcades were basically:

Aero Fighters
Insector X

But now , after have bought a lot of Arcade candies , thanks to this friend I started playing Dodonpachi in my Arcade PC and managed to 1CC it the first loop with 2 players team game.

Now I'm looking to organize a shmups meeting with friends

Cheers!

Dear system11 users,

I would like to introduce myself. I have been playing shooting games for quite some time, even though I never reached the heights that the pro players operate on, here and elsewhere.
Unlike others, I did not come in contact with them in an arcade first (where I live children were banned from them in the 1980s, they were 18+ only) but on home computers. The first one that I extensively played and eventually 1CC'ed (if you can call it that, the game technically never stops and loops forever) was... Silkworm.
With the famous assembling goose enemy.
I have kept a warm, fuzzy place in my heart for horizontal shooters that do not have obstacles, so I count Progear among my most precious, even though that is considered heresy by some.
Speaking of heresy.. due to the fact that I was "socialized" on home computers I've always used sticks wrongly - using the lever with my right hand and pushing buttons with my left, even though I am right handed. I never got over that habit, so I'm building my own arcade sticks that follow this peculiar layout and place the lever right of the buttons.

I have read these forums for a long time now and benefited from them in several ways and I hope I can contribute something meaningful.

Loves me some Progear, but yeah it gets a lot of mixed reactions. Not that I've ever seen anyone say they flat out hate it mind you..

Welcome guys. Would love to see that custom stick when it is finished OM.

I'm just glad you aren't one of those niggly "Nintendos are the wrong-way round" folks. Never could understand them myself. I played PC platformers with the arrow keys all the time when I was younger, and I've never had trouble with the current layout.

Hello! Been led here after watching the excellent My Life in Gaming and trying to get up to speed on how best to implement RGB in setups etc. Might have a few questions but I guess this might be a good place to ask them :)
